The Surgery
Eight days ago, I walked into a government hospital, not knowing what to expect. They led me into a brightly lit room and put me under. For seven days, the only memories I have are of pain, of vertigo, of lightning searing my nerves, and of the purest black abyss. I awoke yesterday, although my senses were still asleep. Even blind, deaf, numb, I felt somehow more alive than I ever had before. I could think ten, twenty, a hundred thoughts at once. It was pure raw mind-power... but it was--is--still raw.
The suits tell me that I'll be able to calculate pi to a million digits, that I'll be able to debug massive programs that would vex even international corporations, that I'll be able to calculate the speed of a bullet as it coursed through the air. Right now though, I'm having a difficult time just keeping my thoughts in order enough to write this journal.
They're going to run a bunch of tests and reprogramming on me over the next couple of months. I don't know what that entails, but I hope it doesn't change my personality--or worse, erase any of my memories. After that, I'll be on board the generation ship, the one that will take me far away from this life on Earth.
I've always gotten a kick out of life, and I (sort of) knew what I was getting myself into when I volunteered for this job, but I'm ready for the next step. This is an opportunity of a lifetime--of multiple lifetimes, if what the suits say is true, that the cybernetics they installed in my body will prevent aging and disease. Hell, I think the sole reason I chose this job was because I didn't want to die. Not that I'm too terribly afraid of death, but just that I'd miss out on a lot if I were to die a natural death in eighty years. I'm curious about the distant future, and I'm willing to go through anything to make sure I see it.

12:57 am - 11.07.2019Maybe it's about time to visit earth, for old time's sake. I read that they have plenty of museums and parks there to display life through history. I'm not usually one for nostalgia, but I'm more curious than anything about what's become of my birth planet.
