Personal history
Born a sickly child to a poor family in Niðavellir, Kveldulf never stood much of a chance. His family could barely afford to sustain themselves, so when he was old enough to set out on his own, he did. Due to his sickly features and weak physique he was effectively unemployable, so when he heard rumors of a golden fortress, he had nothing to lose and everything to gain, with what little he could steal he set out toward Gul'festning, to get rich or die trying.
After a long and hard journey he arrived at Gul'festning, however the rumors seemed to be false, the fortress was gold only in name. Kveldulf’s hope dwindled, but with no other choice he pressed on deeper into the fortress. He wandered through long empty hallways for hours until he reached a door that would forever change his fate, upon opening this door, long dormant spores flowed out, engulfing him completely. When he awoke it seemed the spores were gone, but as he tried to stand he noticed something very wrong, the arm he had used to steady himself was covered in fungus of varying colors and shapes. Shocked, he moved to scrape them off, but something told him to stop, it wasn’t a voice, but more a thought, a thought that was both his and not his.
Kveldulf lived the next century in Gul'festning, not wanting to return to Niðavellir after what he had become. He sustained himself of nothing but the fungus that grew on him and any water that dripped into the ruins. He learnt much from his symbiotic relationship with the fungus, it taught him how to manipulate the spores that the fungus produced and even how to manipulate the earth around him.
His isolation suddenly ended when a group of mercenaries (a dwarf barbarian, a sickly wizard and an ordinary caravan guard) found his hiding hole. Surprised to find people who weren't immediately hostile to him he tried to introduce himself but found he had lost his name so he introduced himself as Soppvekst and tagged along with them in their quest to find a stolen artifact.
After a day of traveling they caught up with the goblin thieves and easily dispatched with them, Soppvekst found the artifact with turned out to be a shard of the Sphere of Ultimate Power. He didn't know what it was at the time but he was mesmerized with its power so when the mercenaries ask for it, he refused. After a short argument it turned out that the mercenaries where divided on what to do with it, so letting Soppvekst hold onto seemed like the best compromise.
Soon after he joined the Mercs in raiding a Kobold infested mine just outside of Brynwic. However after returning to Brynwic with their loot, hoping to get an additional reward for clearing out the Kobolds, the authorities demanded that they hand over everything they got from the mine. The Mercs tried to talk their way out but negotiation started to fall apart after a few threats were made by the Mercs and soon they were forced to flee from the city but not before they circled round to another entrance to pick up a pearl.
Not sure where to go they headed back to the mine, hoping to use the new pearl to identify their loot and a strange locked door they had seen in the mine. Upon arriving at the mine they found that guards from Brynwic had beaten them there, once again negotiations brock down, this time ending in bloodshed as Soppvekst and the Merc slaughtered the guards. After the guards where killed the group re-entered the mine though they found out very little about the door other then it was runes that locked it. Thring to make the best of the trip the party searched the rest of the cave, hoping to find something they had missed. It didn't take them long to find two Giant Cave Lizards, seeing them Gallitas Landrival recommended that Soppvekst attempt to tame them, Soppvekst wasn't sure but attempted it anyway and soon the group had two new pet Lizards. Finding some new trust in Gallitas Landrival, Soppvekst decided to relinquish control of the shard of the Sphere of Ultimate Power to Gallitas Landrival.
