Clive's early life was simple. He grew up in a typical Australian home, with a typical Australian education. Clive's grades weren't the best, so instead of university, he chose to go into the trades. Ultimately he chose to pursue a career as a lineman for the local power company. Clive was good at the job and quickly rose through the ranks.
In a bid to make their linemen more efficient (and almost certainly to save money), the power company decided to try nutyping some of their linemen with super strength. The idea was that they could cut down on the number of people per crew and solve payroll and staffing issues. Clive was chosen to be part of the pilot group. Things went well for the first year or so. Clive's new powers increased his efficiency exponentially. The company was gearing up to expand the program, but ran into a problem. Clive was working near a substation when an out of control vehicle careened into the lift he was working on at the time. He was flung into the power station and was electrocuted by the high voltage components at the substation.
Power was cut after only a couple of minutes, but when Clive's coworkers went to investigate, instead of finding a charred corpse, they saw that not only was Clive not a burnt husk, but he was alive (albeit unconscious). He was taken to the nearby hospital. When staff started to hook him up to monitoring equipment, the found that it was mysteriously failing. This was tried several times before a doctor with knowledge of nuTyping was brought in to assess the situation.
It was determined that Clive's nuTyping had protected his body from the electricity. But it also seems to have screwed with the tech itself. Not only was Clive super strong, but it seemed he now produced electricity. While this was seen as an amazing new discovery, for Clive it meant he was now jobless. He could no longer work on power lines as any interaction he had with them would cause them to over energize and equipment to explode from the over voltage.
For several months after, Clive fell into a deep depression. It wasn't until the Australian government tracked him down and recruited him into the Australian Corporation for Development of Champions (or AC/DC for short) that he was able to pull himself back to somewhat normal. AC/DC gave Clive the tools and knowledge to control and channel his powers. He was soon able to join the rest of the group in providing services to those who needed them.
As a member of AC/DC, Clive was deployed all over Australia, New Zealand, and greater Oceania to deal with all manner of problems. A couple of years in he meets another electric NuType, Rose Magnus. The two bond over their seemingly unique elemental NuType and become fast friends. They form a duo within AC/DC and call themselves Thunderbolt (Clive) and Lightning (Rose). Two years after meeting, they decide to get married.
Thunderbolt and Lightning quickly become quite the duo. Their uniqueness and skill turn them into minor celebrities in the Aus/NZ/Oceania region. The next 5 years were a blast, handling monsters and bad guys, and just generally kicking ass. It would not last.
During a Kaiju incursion in Indonesia, Clive and Rose were deployed to help stop it. Unbeknownst to any of AC/DC, there was more to the attack than just a Kaiju. A shadowy group was using the attack as a cover to test a new anti hero ray that would interfere with their abilities. The ray was ultimately unsuccessful, but in the process of testing it, they managed to distract Rose long enough that she was blindsided by the attacking Kaiju.
Once again, Clive fell into a deep depression. He quit AC/DC and went back to his hometown to drown his sorrows. It took nearly a year before he could get himself back on his feet. He thought of joining AC/DC again, but the idea of doing so without Rose was too painful. Instead, he set his sights on a new place.
He had heard of Pacfica on the west coast of the UCAA. It was billed as an up and coming new utopia. Someplace where everyone was welcome and taken care of. He had also heard that there was still vast untamed frontier in the surrounding area and a need for people of his skills. The decision was made to leave Australia behind and make a new life in Pacifica.
