Background: Lucian was born in hiding and has spent most of his life on the run. His parents had only been children when their nation fell after Ranon the Phoenix led his campaign against it. Fearing persecution from the Ranonite forces, the pair decided to travel incognito to avoid reeducation in an interment camp. As time went on and as they grew, the two eventually fell in love and conceived a child. Regardless, they still clung to their fallen nation's ideals, namely that humans and elves were the master race and that all others were inferior by design. They were quick to install these beliefs into Lucian as well. Unfortunately, Lucian's father was captured by Ranonites when Lucian was but a small child, and as a result, he has very little memories of his father. The only memento he has of his lost father is his greatsword, a blade Lucian has sworn to master and use against all of his enemies.
 
With his father gone, Lucian's mother decided to take up medicine in order to provide for herself and Lucian. Seeing the growing rage in her son, and his attachment to his father's sword, she decided to take him in as her apprentice. Lucian's mother hoped that learning medicine would put him on a better path; a path of healing rather than killing. Together the two of them served as Warwick's residential surgeons, with Lucian also serving as the town' barber (a role he secretly took great pride in). While the villagers in Warwick were not wealthy, Lucian and his mother did well enough for themselves and never went hungry.
 
A loner much of his life, combined with his upbringing, Lucian is rather unpleasant and cold to anyone apart from his mother, especially those who aren't human. While his mother did her best to stop it, Lucian still managed to find time to practice with his father's sword, and dreamed of one day thrusting it through Ranon's heart. However, Lucian's apprenticeship as a surgeon has had some of his mother's desired effect on him, for when he is treating someone, he does so with the utmost care and attention, almost as if he's a completely different person.
