Personal history
Fintan grew up in an isolated monastery in the deserts of Kharasaki. He was the product of a liaison between a human mother and a genie father, but never knew his parents - his mother, part of a wandering tribe of free spirited thinkers, placed him in the monastery when the tribe passed by, as she didn't want to be encumbered with such a burden as a baby.
The monastery that Fintan's mother chose happened to be of the Order of the Guiding Light. These monks and nuns, of the faith of Ephras, cared for the poorest and most vulnerable in society - little babies left out in the desert to die, people with leprosy, the elderly and people with mental illness. All these people would be cast out by the rigid society of Kharasaki, and the monks and nuns would care for them.
The leaders of the monastery, however, had a reputation as subversives, and word eventually reached the law enforcement of Kharasaki. And one day, when Fintan was 18, the soldiers came - burning the monastery to the ground and capturing anyone who did not die fighting them. Only Fintan escaped (or so he believes) and he fled, terrified, to Tarsis. He has been lying low, honing his skills, waiting for the right moment to fight back...
