Born Paeter Als Baden in the idyllic country as of eastern Prussia in the late-war period of 1918, Paeter Als Baden was the youngest (and second) son of the Als Baden family. Born to Helmut and Ingrid Als Baden, Paeter grew up with very little education beyond the farm, only going to public schools when they were required by the government, while spending most of his time at home eschewing the required schoolwork and instead tending to matters on the farm as assigned by his father. Only with his mother's insistence would he complete enough schooling to graduate what we know as "middle school" before returning to the farm full-time.
The Badens, simple homesteaders approximately 20 miles from the coast, lived and worked on the same farm that their family have owned for over three hundred years. Growing a variety of stable foodcrops for themselves, the Als Badens primary cash crop is sunflowers; a crop used to create sunflower oil, something widely desired by the more affluent citizens living in the nearest big city; Konigsberg. Their product, sought after by the well-to-do for its heuristic skincare qualities, along with its use by small groups of local sun-worshiping elves, resulted in the family bringing in enough money to keep themselves relatively comfortable, even during the hard-times of the Depression.
It was on the farm that Paeter would learn how to fly his families modest cropduster, which was largely used to spread pesticide across the sunflowers on his family farm, but also to assist his neighbors who had pest problems as well. Despite his father's stern warnings, he would routinely attempt to do dramatic tricks in the plane, coming close to death a few times. In 1936, he would take these learned skills to the newly re-formed "Luftwaffe", where he would join as a Lieutenant, making substantially more money than he could ever imagine.
He would go on to serve valiantly for the Reich, fighting during the Spanish Civil War in the Condor Legion, in Poland, Denmark, Norway, Holland, Belgium, and France, before being transferred to the newly-formed "Deutschland Erwache" Magic Division. Before his unit could be transported to their new front in North Africa, he and several of his comrades disappeared in the outskirts of Rome, likely a result of foreign assassins.
