God

How is religion practiced by the common folk

Religion is a big part of daily life for the common folk, in troubled times it provides a great feeling of hope. And in times of virtue it provides a great feeling of joy.

Even though the common folk are incredibly devoted to their gods, due to their standing in the order of the world, most of their religious practices are focussed on local customs and seasonal celebrations. Whereas the inner city, where the people stand higher in the order, the focus lies more on the theology and the study of their gods.

These differences can create an imbalance in how the respected gods are perceived. For the common folk the more scholar approach of the inner city can feel quite alienated. Due to their local customs the theology can seem off and falls outside of their known bubble, this can create some friction between the same followers of said religion.
Because of this the common folk can be viewed as uneducated, because the differences between the theology and local customs can be seen as the wrong path of their religion.

For now we will dive deeper as to how the orcs practice their religion.
For the orcish race the god Druumsch.

Some of the more important daily practices of the followers of Druumsch are as followed:

Morning oath:
For their morning prayer the orcs touch one of their scars and recite the following vow: ‘This mark is my past; this day is my promise. Flesh may break, but the clan stands whole. I will hold the line’.
This vow is a promise to their god to protect their tribe.

The sharing of meals:
No member of the tribe should eat alone, while the others go hungry. Feeding the clan is an act of worship, because survival is sacred.

Honoring of their fallen:
At every feast one chair is left empty at the table, the chair is decorated and a meal is placed in front of it. This is a way to honor those warriors who have fallen to protect their clan.

Some of the more common ways to worship their god are:

Shrines of Stone and Iron:
Instead of lavish temples, Gruumsh is honored with rough-hewn stone circles, war banners, and weapons too old to wield but too sacred to discard.
Offerings:
The most common and accepted offerings of Gruumsh are the weapons taken from worthy enemies, the broken chains of freed tribesmen and blood freely given from your own hand.
Weapons taken from worthy enemies, broken chains, and blood freely given from one's own hand are favored offerings. Blood symbolizes commitment, not simply violence.
Storm Prayers:
During thunderstorms, the tribe gathers in silence, believing Gruumsh's voice speaks in the thunder.

The priests of Gruumsch.
The priesthood of Gruumsch is obtained through only two ways. Veterans of the tribe who have survived impossible odds or the keepers of clan history, those who make sure no member is forgotten.
A common practice of the priests is deliberately blinding one eye, as to honor the sacrifice of Gruumsh. The priests take on this burden, not because blindness grants them the power of Gruumsh, but because willingly accepting a permanent burden demonstrates their endless devotion.

Within in the religion there are a few unforgivable sins:
Abandoning the tribe
Hoarding food or wealth while the tribe suffers
Seeking glory for oneself instead of the tribe.
