Personal history
Krystof was born as the second son into the Lyndon family, a declining Noble House somewhere in Southern Aethoria. His older brother, Karlo, was good at everything he did from a very young age, so Krystof's parents expected the same from him.
Unlike his older brother, Krystof was only ever decent at anything he tried, which wasn't enough for his parents. The only thing he seemed to truly be good at, was music, especially the lute. So his parents promptly put him through a strict musical training and later the local Bard-College.
While Krystof doesn't dislike music, he can't really say that he likes it either. Music alone just seems so boring, as if there is something missing. His schedule didn't really leave much time for hobbies, so for most of his life he just did what was asked of him and nothing more. His only form of proper entertainment were the performances of the traveling circus troupe that would stroll into town every year or so.
One day, when he was watching the troupe, they had a new performance: A mock duel. That day, while watching the elegant footsteps and the happy music of the other performers, something in Krystof's mind clicked. He now knew what he wanted to do.
When he brought up the idea of channeling the bardic music through a performance of blades instead of song, in his college, he was quickly shut down. He was told, that that way of casting was frowned upon and wouldn't make him a proper bard. His parents had a similar reaction.
This, however, was not enough to stop Krystof. He slowly saved up just enough money to buy his own rapier. It was shabby and slightly used, but enough for him. He trained with it in secret and learned how to channel his magic through swordplay after only a couple of months.
Perhaps a little too excited about his progress, he wasn't cautious enough and his parents found out about his secret training and confronted him with only two options: give up his “silly dream of swordplay” or leave the house, only to return once he learned his lesson.
While he didn't want to leave his brother, he had no choice, but to go. Krystof would not give up the only thing that has finally given him joy. He swore he would prove himself and his way of magic to his family.
Krystof, now homeless and without any plan, spent the next couple of months traveling from village to village doing pretty much any job that would pay: Helping in the field, defending a village from amber spiders, entertaining the children of the Village chief, while he is out with his mistress and even the occasional mock-battle when he came across the traveling circus
During this time, he would take jobs from all kinds of different people, most of whom he would never see again. There was, however, a recurring client: An old elven lady called Maya. Her Jobs were always easy, and they would pay good too. But she somehow always found a way to contact Krystof, no matter where he was.
Her ninth job, if you can even call it that, was different, however. She simply sent a message containing “You're ready. Come to me, I shall teach you”. Krystof was thoroughly confused by this, but complied. Maya seemed nice after all, and she would always pay good money.
When Krystof arrived at Mayas now hut, she explained that she was part of the Order of the blades. At least she had been. She was forced into retirement due to an injury and has been looking for a student for a while now. She said that it was something about his character that reminded Maya of herself when she was young.
Krystof accepted her proposal to learn the ways of the blade under her tutelage, mostly because he wanted a somewhat permanent roof over his head, though he quickly learned to enjoy Mayas teachings.
Krystof spent the next three and a half years training under Maya and learned quite a bit. He could now invoke his magic through his Rapier, something that he could only do through song before.
Maya was an odd woman though. She would only speak if necessary, which made everything that wasn't directly related to her lessons feel weird. Krystoff often filled the silence with music. He learned how to play the lute during this time. Unlike with his family, he actually enjoyed playing music with Maya.
But everything must eventually come to an end. One day, Maya simply disappeared, leaving only a note and her old sword, the “Ray of Sun”. In the note, she simply wrote, that he was ready now and that she left him her sword as a parting gift. And the Ray of Sun was a most peculiar sword. There was something inside it, calling to Krystoff, making him stronger in some way.
He got back to his old ways for a short time, to stock up on money, but then made his ways to Dagrun, where he hoped to further hone his abilities as a blade.
In Dagrun, he joined up with a merry band and (it was so obvious in hindsight) the leader of an underground crime organization. After discovering the plot of the Yuan-Ti they started a counter-insurgency operation, the F.U.C. It seemed to be going quite well for a while, but one fateful day Kaida, a blue dragon born, good friend and powerful Illusionist was assassinated by the Yuan-Ti. Not long after, Tharen, the leader of the whole operation, disappeared, never to be seen again. Things quickly took a turn for the worse after that, and Krystoff was forced to flee the city.
