Personal history
Kuonrad was born in a small village on the northern border of Rheged. As a child, his village was destroyed by a warlord known as "The Antlered One." Kuonrad swore an oath on the alter of Wotan that he'd avenge his family. Taking his father's armor, shield, and sword, Kuonrad wandered as an orphan and joined a mercenary band called the Old Guard.
After Kuonrad had honed his skills in battle, he left and joined the army of Rheged. Kuonrad joined thinking that the kingdom would eventually find the warlord that killed his family. After fighting pointless wars for several years, Kuonrad left at the rank of corporal. He now wanders to find his own way, seeking justice for those in need and dealing out vengeance to those that have wronged him.
Traversing down south, Kuonrad wound up in some unfortunate circumstances, being arrested during a bar fight in Rowland City. He was thrown in jail with a half-elf barbarian named Shaylen. The two were granted freedom by one of Rowland's Ruling Councilmen, Lord Liutbrand, under one condition. Find his daughter Agnes, and bring her home. Together the pair set off for the marshy island of Strols, where they did battle with bandits and ghouls, returning Agnes to her father, and gaining a reward. On the journey back to Rowland City, they ran into the company of a firbolg druid named Wendel, who wished to accompany them in his search for a powerful item simply known as the Heart of the Oak. As the trio left Rowland City, Agnes left the confines of her home, wishing to join them and see the world for what it is. They accepted her.
Together, this new adventuring group traveled to the Blue Woods, lifting a darkness that was beset upon the forest by a Bone Golem, which had tainted the temple of the elven god, Sehanine Moonbow. Moving on from the woodland realm, the party found themselves in the city of Clonabridge, which was beset by a plague, accompanied by the disappearance of the city's rat catchers. In the local tavern, they met a friendly dwarf monk by the name of Vladimir, who offered his assistance in getting to the bottom of the plague, on the condition that they would accompany him to his old monastery to retrieve his staff. In Clonabridge's sewers, there was a cave in, stranding Shaylen on the other side. Kuonrad, desperately trying to move the rocks and rubble to save his comrade, was gently pulled away by his companions, informing him that it was no use. In the sewers, they found that the rat catchers had been forcefully turned into wererats by a mysterious group known as the Priests of Blight. There, in the sewers long and winding tunnels, the heroes did battle with Priest' leader, the dreaded Putrid Lord Eilmund. But, before the killing blow could be landed, the foul magic wielder escaped. Collecting their reward while mourning the loss of their comrade the heroes pushed on.
Venturing to the Blue Mountains, where Vladimir's old monastery resided, they ran into a mischievous old gnome by the name of Fibblestib Umbodoben. They put an end to the old gnome's tricks as he was conjuring illusory ogres to scare travelers. Reaching the old monastery, Vladimir found his staff, just in time for the group to defend the monastery from a goblin warband. All were in agreement how it was strange for goblins to be this far south. With their business concluded, they continued their journey north, running into a naked half-elf bard on the wayside. He went by the name of Leigh, and had lost his affects after some gambling went south. After hunting down the ones who took Leigh's clothes, their day's travel took them to the city of Culmkerk. In Culmkerk, they helped rally the defenses of a wandering orc warband, and catching the attention of the local lord, Gruffin Yarwood. With Yarwood's patronage, he employed them to help liberate one of his towns from a group of cultists that had taken it for themselves.Â
At the Battle of Drogstone, the adventurers--still having no name for themselves--brought the town back under Yarwood's sphere of influence, and killing the cult leader Father Grimolt in the process. It was through this arc of their journey, that another member joined their group in Culmkerk. A firbolg blood hunter named Kaolin, eagerly became a new addition to this party of adventurers. In their quest to find the Heart of the Oak for Wendel, the party made acquaintances with a mad shop keeper called Aunt Polly, before reaching the lake town of Mousa. There, they found the Heart of the Oak's thief. He informed them that he no longer had it, sold it to a Kattegat tribesman named Hunlaf. Now on the hunt for Hunlaf, the party came to assist an old man named Karney, who had been wrongfully accused of murdering children in Mousa, while searching for his deceased wife's remains. With Karney's help they found the real culprits, a coven of sea hags. After killing the hags, the party agreed to help Karney in his search for his wife's remains, after their business with Hunlaf. Taking the sea hag heads back to the mayor, the group of adventurers finally gave themselves a name: The Guardsmen.

Mental Trauma
Kuonrad's childhood experience of watching his entire village slaughtered, along with his time on the battlefield are things that the young warrior has not easily forgotten. Certain situations such as a downed comrade, or a certain combination of images can trigger a certain reaction from Kuonrad. When Shaylen disappeared behind the rubble, or when Kaolin briefly went down at the hands of Karney, Kuonrad brashly rushed into the fray with a disregard for everything around him simply uttering "No man left behind," over and over, and over again. There are other nights where Kuonrad wakes up in a cold sweat from dreams and images that deal with his life's previous and violent experiences. Sometimes after the party's engagement in a large combative situation, Kuonrad can at times, need to take a moment to clear the scenes that have slithered their way into his mind. This is something that other knights and soldiers suffer from in Laurentia, and Kuonrad's allies have recognized it as well. Acknowledging that their friend suffers from PTSD.
Morality & Philosophy
Kuonrad has a philosophy of live and let live. Kuonrad tolerates the opinions and beliefs of others so that they will tolerate his own, but even if they don't he doesn't really care. He's going to do what he's going to do anyways; and if doing the right thing makes others mad then so be it. He does the best to follow the tenets of his faith to Wotan, but ultimately he's somewhat pessimistic due to the circumstances that life has thrown at him. He tries to just go with the flow of life, never assumes, and doesn't expect much of anything or anyone.
