Personal history
Born into a life shaped by secrecy and devotion, Aella Amaris grew up in the shadow of both danger and unwavering faith. The youngest daughter of Jamyang, a missionary from Mirage Province , and Miriam Amaris, an escapee from Agrivault in Shield Province , Aella’s existence was marked by the clash of two worlds—one built on open emotion and spiritual belief, the other on repression and control.
Her parents’ love story was one forged in adversity. Miriam’s daring escape from the confines of Agrivault led her into the protective arms of Jamyang, who sheltered and healed her, seeing in her a kindred spirit in need of salvation. Together, they formed the Path—a movement dedicated to aiding other prisoners in their flight to freedom. Though deemed insurgents by the ruling forces of Shield Province , the Path remained steadfastly focused on their mission, steering clear of militarism and instead relying on secrecy, resilience, and faith.
From childhood, Aella’s closest confidant and protector was her elder brother, Leo. Possessing an extraordinary connection with the divine, Leo displayed abilities that seemed almost miraculous—forewarning his family of impending dangers and guiding them to safety. His presence was a constant source of strength for Aella, especially as she navigated life with Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome. Despite her physical limitations, she refused to be defined by them, dedicating herself to the study of medicine to aid those around her and honing survival skills to ensure she would never be easily captured.
The family believed themselves to be destined for something greater, as recurring dreams of divine origin hinted that one among them must attend the Born New Military Academy . It was Leo who was chosen, his abilities marking him as the most promising candidate. However, fate intervened cruelly. Mere days before his entrance exams, Shield’s secret service (The Reflectors) raided their safehold. Though Aella pursued them, she could do nothing to prevent Leo’s execution. The agony of his loss threatened to consume her, but in that moment, a divine spark surged through her, filling her with certainty—she must take her brother’s place.
With grief and anger entwining within her heart, Aella embarked on a path she never imagined for herself. Though she felt inadequate for the role thrust upon her, she found solace in her faith, believing resolutely that her journey would reunite her with her family and Leo in the afterlife. The road ahead was fraught with uncertainty, but she would not falter. She carried her brother’s legacy and the weight of her people’s hope upon her shoulders, determined to see their mission fulfilled.
