In a Nutshell:
Ezmar was up on Sky's Gate looking for spell components when he came across a shrine full of animated corpses. Unlike regular zombies and skeletons, these bodies were still bound to their souls, and so were sentient and non-aggressive. He has now spent the last couple weeks tending to these dead and looking for a way to release their souls to the afterlife.

Ezmar was a student at the Mage's College for most of his life, but a little more than 8 years ago left to pursue his own work. His passion is necromancy, though he prefers to put it to more practical use, rather than caving to stereotypes.
Stalker the Cat:
Ezmar found Stalker on a roadside not long after setting out on his own. He found the cat is curiously intelligent, and decided to keep him as his familiar. Sometimes he wonders if it was actually Stalker who chose to keep him instead, as he's never been able to keep ahold of the cat.
