Since she was 26, Nari had a long scar on her left cheek from a battle fought during her homecoming trip in 1812.

Identifying Characteristics

Nari has an intricate tattoo themed around fire protection on her left lower leg, the tibia's section differing from the calf's, both being linked, that she got to celebrate becoming a Wizard.

Apparel & Accessories

Nari will usually wear a necklace with a shellfish pendant, the shellfish itself being a gift from Obimir, twin to the one her husband, Jaedong, that they both received as childs, and that she had mounted on a nice silver chain later in Hiki. After her husband's passing, she would instead wear his shellfish necklace, and passed her own to their grandchild, Berthram Kwan.

When traveling, Nari wears an elegant robe of stars, gifted to her by her teacher, Suguru Mahōuta, when she obtained her Archmage title.

In her young adult years, Nari would also wear the tracking necklace that her teacher had her wear all the time as a child when she would travel away from Hiki. Even though it no longer served its purpose as a tracking method, she liked to have it on as a good luck charm when far from home.

Nari uses an intricate arcane grimoire as her spellbook and spellcasting focus, a gift from her teacher, Suguru Mahōuta, when she obtained her title of Wizard.

Mentality

Education

As a child, Nari went to her village's school and received some extra lessons from private tutors, although she avoided those as much as she could. After being taken in by Archmage Suguru Mahōuta, he gave her private lessons, which allowed her to join Hiki's Dominion's school, the Edemo Academy, that she attended from 11 to 17 and passed the exam to become a wizard just before her 18th birthday.

Employment

Nari intended to become a Wizard Combatant for the Dominion of Magic, but changed her mind after becoming a Wizard, when it was suggested that she becomes an Archmage, instead seizing the opportunity to discover more about the Fey Realms. She became a researcher and chose interplanar travel as her main field of research, and spent most of her time researching ways to create a viable way to do these travels. The Dominion also often assigned tasks to its wizards, so Nari had her fair share of diplomatic and other missions on behalf of the Dominion, more and more as she rose through the ranks.

Accomplishments & Achievements

Nari became a recognized researcher in interplanar travel, she held some conferences and published her discoveries. She also rose through the ranks of the Dominion, eventually becoming Empress of Evocation.

Failures & Embarrassments

Nari considers the first time she had to eliminate someone in order to uphold her pact with Obimir as her greatest failure in life, with each subsequent similar failures being added to it, as she considers that she should have been able to find another solution and was unable to.

Mental Trauma

After being kidnapped and tortured by a deranged and corrupted fey entity, Nari never quite recovered from the aftereffects of Sheogometh playing with her memories, even after having those memories restored, and lived in fear to find yet another alteration and was haunted by the twisted memories. She also felt very guilty that her husband, Jaedong and he closest friend, Hanako, were also kidnapped with her, especially in Hanako's case, as she also had her memories twisted by the Fey.

Intellectual Characteristics

Her pact with Obimir gave Nari the understanding of what it is to be a Fey and of the Fey realm by being implanted with a Fey's memories and living them in an accelerated manner. This changed her in some ways, giving her a new perspective on life, enhancing a bit her persuasion and deception abilities, and allowing her to understand and speak all languages with an accent.

Morality & Philosophy

Nari is a bit of an idealist. She believes that the Dominion of Magic exists to help people and be a beacon of knowledge, and works to accomplish those ideals and fight back corruption within the Dominion. Her position within it is an occasion to try to push the organization towards doing good.

Motivation

Duty, curiosity and her family's well-being are Nari's main motivations, and are reflected in her priorities and life's decisions.

Her childhood adventure in a Fey Realm and lifelong commitment to piercing it's secrets have driven Nari's career choice and encouraged her to look into every Fey connected matter that she could, even before making a pact with Obimir, making her change her path from becoming a Wizard combatant to being an Archmage. This pact only cemented her motivation to expand her knowledge, and the duty to protect the Fae's secrets that she took with it has dictated most of her life's decisions afterward.

Nari also grew up with tales of great heroes and adventurers, and the child in her that went to the Dominion to become a hero, still thrives to be a positive influence in the world, although in a different manner that she envisioned in her childhood.

Nari likes singing, chocolate, writing in her journal and traveling with Jaedong, her husband. To her surprise, she also enjoyed being a mother and having a family. She dislikes strong alcohol, the power struggles and abuses of power happening in the Dominion, and her diplomatic missions as negotiations are not her strong suit. She prefers tea to coffee, loves to read stories of heroes and epic battles, and also secretly really enjoys romance books, a fact she will only admit to her closest friends.

Vices & Personality flaws

Due to her privileged life, and despite her best intentions, Nari often doesn't realize how most people live and what struggles they have to face in their everyday life, which will sometimes make her look haughty to strangers, even though that is not her intention. Her obsession with magic also makes her blind to the passing of time, and paired with the distance, made her neglect her ties to her blood family and her own sleep, but Jaedong would eventually make sure to rein in that side of her.

Nari always ends up twisting and playing with a stray strand of hair when working if any escaped the hair ties tying up her hair out of the way.

Nari despised being dirty to the highest degree, making frequent use of prestidigitation to clean herself at the smallest inconvenience when away from home. She also used it daily to wear a discrete cherry blossoms perfume.

Ater taking her away to Hiki, her teacher, Suguru Mahōuta, quickly became a pillar in her new life and eventually became a father figure for her. He educated her in many fields and taught her magic, making sure that she would stay ahead of her classes if she put in the necessary work, and as such was a strict teacher, but not an unjust one. He finished the task of raising her without attempting to take her father's place, as she was a child, but this was only ever in the objective of turning her into an accomplished adult. After a couple of years away from her hometown, even though he never tried to act as her father and never actually adopted her, Nari came to see him as family and took his last name at 16, following the Wizard's custom to change their name to better reflect who they are. His last name became linked to her own identity as a wizard, keeping it even after getting married.

Apart from her teacher, Nari also came to find a very good friend in Hiki, Hanako Akikoto. She met Hanako at the Edemo's Academy entrance ceremony, the two of them happened to join the school at the same time. Hanako noticed Nari in the crowd and approached her, and that was the beginning of a friendship that would last for their lifetime. The two of them would always keep in contact, despite Hanako often travelling and establishing herself away from Hikki, but she would often come back to visit Nari, and Nari knew that despite her friend's tendencies to put herself into trouble, she could always count on her when she needed help, and Hanako did help her out a lot in her work, any social situation and saved her life more then once. Nari considered Hanako as a sister and always felt like home was empty when she was away.

Family Ties

Nari is the middle child of Cheol and Kyeng Rhan. She has an older sister, Jiyou, who is 7 years older and a younger brother, Jiwo, 2 years younger than her. Having left her hometown at a young age, Nari did not have strong ties to her family, even though she did keep in contact with them via letters. As a child, she was too absorbed in her studies, exploring her new world and her close relations becoming family to even think about visiting back home, only visiting them for the first time because her research brought her back to her hometown. The conflicts surrounding those circumstances made her realize that she had completely disconnected herself from her blood family after leaving, having put her work in the Dominion first, having completely assimilated herself in Hiki's culture and considering her mentor as kin. She however still cared for them and was grateful to her family for letting her leave, and she tried to visit them more often after Jaedong joined her in Hiki.

Her childhood friend, Jaedong Kwan, was her closest friend as a child, and quickly became her partner at 26 and an integral part of her life after reconnecting after 16 years apart when she went back to their hometown for some research and found him again by fate. They were both bound by the same pact and affected by it, although in different ways, and that adventure also ignited feelings in their hearts. Nari brought him back with her to Hiki, and it didn't take long for them to officialize their relationship and make their own family. Nari never officially took Jaedong's last name, the Mahōuta name being too tied to her identity as a Wizard, but she sometimes used it when traveling. Jaedong balanced her and kept her grounded, they made a life of adventures and a home in the house she eventually inherited from Suguru Mahōuta. They had three children together, Soo-ah Kwan at 30, Ji-han Kwan at 34 and Gun-ha Kwan at 37. She tried to raise her children as she was raised and to give them the opportunity to become Wizards if they wished to, to be part of the Dominion as she was.
