Alwyne “The Grey” Masslin, Adventurer He is a 62-year-old male human. Alwyne has gray hair and beard with blue eyes. He has a slightly stooped posture, and a recurrent cough. He wears muted shades so, as he states it, to not startle his animal companions. A human, Alwyne has lived in Ryme Thalas for most of his adult life. A trainer of animals from Alloria, Alwyne came to Ryme Thalas some 40 years ago. During his visit, Alwyne met and fell in love with the young elf Taia Masslin (a distant relative of Denora Masslin). The couple eventually married and Alwyne settled in Ryme Thalas. His gentle, patient manner serves Ryme Thalas well, and over the years he has augmented his knowledge of animals with various elven techniques. In keeping with local practice, Alwyne does not leash or corral animals but allows them to stay or depart of their own free will, wooing their cooperation with treats and kind words. Alwyne can train most any animal to do anything. Although not particularly helpful in Ryme Thalas, Alwyne can train riding horses and warhorses like no one else. Alwyne lives with Taia in her tree abode. The couple has a son and a daughter, both young adults. Their son, the sorcerer and rogue Celoryn, also lives in Ryme Thalas. While she has expected it for many years, the increasing infirmity of her quickly aging husband distresses Taia, who is only 170 years old herself.
