Personal history
Born to High Priestess Tanis Kamarra and Jerik Hailtide, Naia spent most of her formative years surrounded by acolytes and monks of Arunei's Temple. Known for her insatiable curiosity for life surrounding the underwater Temple City of Kamosh, she was known to slip out of lectures and embark on excursions with her companion Leifa. Upon returning from one of these adventures, she developed an illness that quickly incapacitated her. As a last resort, her mother pleaded with Arunei to heal her and brought her to the Sanctum at the heart of the temple city. Upon exposure to the Source within, Naia's hair transformed from a deep green to a distinct silver and she swiftly recovered, at the cost of many of her memories. As an acolyte who had yet to master the way of the elements, Naia's entry into Sanctum was viewed as a betrayal of the ways of Arunei. As the circumstances surrounding Naia's revival came to light, Tritons throughout Kamosh were split between those believing the High Priestess selfishly exposed the Source to corruption to save her daughter and those who viewed Naia's healing as a sign of Arunei's favor. To prevent civil conflict, Tanis stepped down from her position as High Priestess and sent her daughter away to continue her education with Kilash of the Wild, whom she hoped could guide her daughter to her destiny.
Education
Naia spent many years as an acolyte sitting through lectures and poring over the scrolls harbored in the temple library. As the anticipated next High Priestess, she dedicated much of her time to preparing for the numerous rituals expected of her through prayer and meditation. A life of devotion to Arunei required humility and intense effort, both of which were instilled in acolytes at a young age through a mixture of physical combat training and meditative prayer.
Accomplishments & Achievements
Naia quickly differentiated herself from her fellow acolytes by moving through most exercises grace, ease, and a sharp wit. The priestesses were asked to create a specialized curriculum to challenge her mentally and physically. Through these trials, her fervent devotion to Arunei crystalized into a seemingly unbreakable determination to uphold the virtues of Arunei.
Failures & Embarrassments
Her illness and the actions of her mother to save her were a source of great embarrassment for Naia. How could she take over the duties of a High Priestess if her body was so vulnerable to disease? Although she had her life back, much of her knowledge of the world above and around her was lost. Additionally her mother had betrayed the strict rules surrounding access to the Sanctum. To satiate the anger felt by so many, her mother stepped down as High Priestess and Naia was sent away to an outsider to continue her education.
Mental Trauma
Her loss of memory after her miraculous healing dealt a great blow to her confidence and left her only with the insights and habits engrained through years of cultivating physical and mental awareness.
