Balram is an impact weapon-wielding ram from the Greater Pony Herd, his quest to prove himself and unlock inner strength has been taken on a lengthy detour by the near-fatal wounding of his master and the escape from imprisonment of an entity known as the Eater of Breath; while this has been defeated his mentor has suggested that he and his fellow student Lily Emptyhoof continue to journey and be ready for the force that lay behind the Eater's escape as she grows stronger in her newfound Qi powers.
