Your past remains a mystery to you. You know that you were born in the city of Leilon, shortly before the city was razed by the dread hordes that came out of the mists across the Mere of Dead Men.
The Knights of the Realm liberated the ruins of the city from the horrors that had claimed it, but for you there was nothing to return to - your parents were dead, your house a ruin and everyone you knew shunned you, because rumors had spread that you had developed strange powers during the conflict.
It was true, though you barely remember it, when you were forced to flee your home you did something. Something you couldn't de before.
It saved your life, but only yours.
Sildar found you, hungry and afraid, and outcast among outcasts, forced to depart the refugee camps and fend for yourself in the wild - a task you had managed to undertake with more success than anyone would have expected of a girl who hadn't even seen her 6th summer yet.
Outraged by their lack of camaraderie, Sildar ordered his men to flog the survivors of your village, withhold their emergency rations and send them on a forced march to safer lands - it is likely that some of them suffered permanent injuries because of his ire.
Sildar took you in as his ward and you were afforded an education in Hallwinter, but after a few years your magical talents had become so dangerous that he was forced to send you somewhere.
For reasons he kept to himself, he was reluctant to send you to the Order of Magi, so instead, he sent you to the Temple where you studied healing arts, meditation, history and scripture.
The Mother Superior of the Monastery you trained in was very invested in you, and she taught you that during a moment of crisis, souls can form permanent lasting bonds with powerful entities - even if they don't wish to do so,
She taught you that it was rarely entirely benevolent beings that offered such bargains, and that the Order of Magi was extremely harsh towards those who had come about their magical power in such a way - but she also taught you that such beings occasionally offered such bargains without expecting their... Victims... to survive, and thus did not ask for much in return and could rarely force their former victims to do anything, and that all you had to do to control your powers was to learn how to shut the voices and urges of your patron out.
As a young adult, you had mastered yourself well enough that trained Magi failed to even notice your magical aura when you walked past them, but you hadn't come closer to discovering who your patron was.
A late student of magic, you enrolled in the Order of Magi already close to an adult and learned what little you could from them before they eventually found you out some years later.
Branded as a witch, the Order intended to burn you when rumors spread that Hallwinter had been attacked. Unwilling to be seen as accomplices in the attacks against the honored Tresendar family, the Order reluctantly released you and did not even strip you of your membership - rather they assigned you to be a "Seeker", which is basically a magical archeologist and hoped to keep you out of sight and out of mind - but you had little interest in seeking magical knowledge and rather hurried to your childhood home of Hallwinter finding only Sildar and his nephew alive and decided to put your talents to use to get them safely out of the city.
