Daybreak

by Trevor Belmont

We won. We killed Strahd von Zarovich and set free the land of Barovia. Like all great victories, however, it came with sacrifices.

I do not recall much of the battle, as the experience of being a werewolf places the mind in a frenzy of instinct and rage. Much of it was a blur with only moments of clarity, up until the skies seemed to split open, pouring sunlight down upon Castle Ravenloft, and released the curse that the moon held sway over me. I was naked on that balcony, but it certainly wasn't the first time I'd awoken to my senses and found myself without clothes on. Likely won't be the last time either.

I know Elaine left with the Raven Queen to return to her non-existence. Bryndon left us when he broke the Staff of Power. Adrostos sacrificed himself at the Amber Temple for a personal matter that I don't believe I would ever understand. Oren seemed to slip away in the aftermath of Strahd's death, none of us knowning his fate. Rudolph van Richten sacrificed himself so that we could retrieve Strahd's Diary from the crazed revenant Vladamir Horngaard. Ireena allowed herself to become Tatyana fully, and finally broke free of her curse of reincarnation to be forever with her love Sergei. Erkki plummeted to his death within the halls of Argonvostholt, trying to help complete the trials given to us. Kasimir fell to Strahd in our final battle, I'm told, having been disintegrated by some spell of the Devil's. And Oswald. Ever the self-sacrificing. Gave his all to save us for as long as he could withstand, only to fall by Strahd's blade.

I truly believe it was Oswald that called the spirit of Sergei to our aid in our final moments. I remember seeing the glowing angelic form of the man, after I was forcefully returned to my human form, basically cripple Strahd and call over Marushka and Ezmerelda to deliever the final blow to his brother.

We owe them all a debt that cannot be repaid for allowing us to make it this far, and to free Barovia from the curse that made it hell.

Only 4 of us managed to leave Barovia after attending Eva's funeral on our way. Ezmerelda, Eerika, Marushka, and myself all passed through the Mist, and found ourselves back on the docks of Waterdeep where I originally took passage on a vessel to Barovia. I.. didn't get an opportunity to see of Moira made it out alive - for when last we saw, the land of Barovia was literally ripping itself asunder. It feels heavy on my heart to know that of all of us who left together, I was the only one to return.

On the upside of things, I've never seen Marushka so happy. Big city, large taverns, so many stories to hear and tell... I can't express in words how I feel to have finally freed her of that place. She began telling me of the stories and songs she would write for the others, and I thought it a fitting tribute to them. Many legends are told from bards as they travel the land and exchange stories with others. I couldn't ask for a better ending for them than to be immortalized in story and song to be passed down through the generations.

We haven't yet dealt with mine own curse yet, but it would be something we shall discuss. There are plenty of people, now that we are back in Faerun, who can break the curse of lycanthropy. I may keep the scar, however. My wife seems to see it was a reminder of things we went through together, and how far I was willing to go for her. I like that. I know not where our lives will go from here. I suspect I shall take Marushka to see Faerun and show her a world more exciting than I could explain. She has a far better gift for words than I, and I probably did the sites no amount of justice in trying to entire her with leaving Barovia so long ago. I look forward to our adventures together going forward.

Hopefully some fucking whackjobs don't try to revive Strahd or something stupid like that. I'm so fucking done with that shit.

The major events and journals in Trevor's history, from the beginning to today.

Waterdeep and The Children

So it seems like the family name is getting around. Reputation, too. Not sure that I like that. Father accepted some hireling request from the [NAME] family. Apparently, they're rich, and dear mommy and daddy don't want them runnin' off to Waterdeep on th...

03:04 am - 04.03.2020

The Undead Cruiseship - Arguably Still Better Than Carnival

I am so fucking done with the undead. If I never seen another undead horror for the rest of my life, I may just die a happy man. ...Maybe. So we pick up right from where we left off. Having dealt with the thieves and found the Writ of Passage and the p...

02:21 am - 13.03.2020

Fucking Dwarves.

We got off the Gypsy's Fury and almost immediately met a fucking dwarf. This is where it began. So we meet this fucking dwarf covered in blood and gore, and he claims he was in Neverwinter just the night before, though he was with his brothers in a ca...

10:59 pm - 22.03.2020

Beginning to See the Truth

So turns out Strahd Von Zarovich himself had attended this old man's funeral. He was controlling the beasts outside the village. Go figure. "The Devil" himself decided to show up to the Burgermeister's wake, because "he was a good man" and "his death was ...

05:19 am - 26.03.2020

I don't even know where to begin with this one.

As you can probably tell, if you've been reading these journals, that there's been a large gap between this and the last one. I'm not 100% sure where the pages went (I know I wrote them down somewhere), but I have a sneaking suspicion that fucking Erkki t...

The One I'd Like to Forget

After a very long night and hardly any sleep, I managed to finally calm my mind enough to go to sleep in one of the rooms in the windmill. I kept replaying Elaine's death over and over, trying to come up with... something. Anything. Wanting to be able to ...

05:54 am - 22.09.2020

Hunters in this place are all just fuckboys, change my mind.

I stayed behind with Ezmerelda and Rudolf after the others went back into the Inn, hoping to glean some more useful information from them about our enemy. To be honest, the rest of them are fools for not taking this chance to learn as much from these two ...

07:04 am - 22.09.2020

Its hard to be right all the time.

I wasn't sleeping like I should when Ireena burst into the Blue Water Inn and began shouting about an ally of Strahd having infiltrated the city. With my issues about Marushka keeping me up, and this thunderstorm going on outside, sleep wasn't coming to m...

02:23 am - 14.10.2020

A small amount of payback, but not nearly enough

I'm going to be honest, I don't remember a lot of the morning. Probably from all the drink the Bishop had with him. We kinda drank him dry as I recall. As the day went on, we decided to split up and follow the two leads we decided needed looking into: The...

Dinner Pt 1

Strazni left without much of a fight once the battle with the vampires were said and done, all told. He demanded we meet him at the Baron's home immediately and left. We decided to crack the sealed letter open for some insight on what was going on and Str...

04:03 am - 04.11.2020

Dinner Pt 2

I write this journal during the late hours of night and into the early light of day, watching the sun rise with Marushka by my side as we drive Ezmerelda's wagon towards our destination of Argynvostholt. I will now recount the events of the past day. K...

10:14 pm - 19.11.2020

Argynvostholt, so far...

The events leading up to this journal entry have been harrowing, to say the least. I write this journal in, I believe, the wee hours of the morning; sunrise, if this realm had one, would be shortly coming. I'll recount the events as best as I can remember...

The Fallout of Argynvostholt

Upon waking the next day, the way forward was opened to us into the rest of Argynvostholt. Oswald summoned his horse the night before, and with the creature, Van Richten, and Ezmerelda, our party went forth. The next chamber was a great hall, the path thr...

Lost and Found..

I awoke earlier in the morning than I had really wanted, but despite my best efforts, I could not get back to sleep. In getting prepared for the day, I looked at the pile of clothes and armor on the floor of the wagon, and thought back to the events of th...

Whip > ChickenHouse

Good lord. Where do I even start with this one? We woke up in the morning and began our trek through the ruins towards the center of the city, following the.. magical leyline or whatever it was. In order to prevent a repeat of the day before, I made s...

11:43 pm - 22.02.2021

...Fuck.

After waking the next day after losing our friends once again, we were greeted by the very brief sight of Strahd von Zarovich disappearing into a cloud of mist while Elaine continues to keep watch. Of course we all began to berate her and demand an explan...

05:24 am - 01.03.2021

So that happened.

As dawn broke over the land, or at least what passes for dawn here, we awoke to the sound of an echoing church bell. We gathered our things and continued on towards Krezk, talking about our plans amongst ourselves as we went. Truth be told, I largely igno...

The Beast of Mount Baratok

Having left the Abbey at Krezk, we didn't bother to go back into the city proper. Who knows how the citizens may react when they find out their "Abbot" is dead. If they don't already. I didn't plan to stick around and find out. We argued about trying to f...

06:15 pm - 23.03.2021

I don't even have words for this bullshit.

We left the Vistani to their own devices with some promise that we could return to rest if we required it. Helpful, I suppose. As we proceeded through the antechamber before us, a large statue at the end of the room attacked us, getting the jump on us by ...

What Goes On In The Dark (Powers)

Let me preface this by saying nothing I’d so far encountered in this godsforsaken land could have prepared me for today. Not even the events of yesterday. I was awoke sometime in the early hours of the morning by Marushka, usually something I’d be ...

01:25 am - 03.05.2021

A Vow

Dear Marushka, I write this to you specifically though it is rather unorthodox in that I have written it within my personal journal. We have a custom in Faerun when people are to be wed that involve an exchanging on rings. I have not such a thing on...

So, we ended up taking that longer rest, as I expected. Marushka and I shared a crypt with Oswald and Kasimir, still barely able to be protected by Leomund's Tiny Hut that Elaine had become so fond of. Elaine, Bryndon, Eerika and our new friend Oren took ...

To Marushka:

I’m sorry. Let me say that first. I love you. I know you’ve been upset with me since I took the Stoyanavich curse upon myself, and I never really gave you an explanation. Allow me to do so now. I have not been very outspoken about my family back...
