The last stand of the Owlbears
Begin writing your story here. As they approached the fortress Elamen began to feel the prickle of dread that came with a dark turn in a story. From her perch upon Vossk shoulder she witnessed no guards, no active traps and no wards preventing their entry as they raced directly for the lair of the monster that was making the creatures that haunted the mountain.
It was rare when a foe welcomed them into their hold, and that was exactly what was happening. No grand fanfare just unlocked doors and unblocked passages allowing the group to head to the location their enemy wanted them to be in. Dread began to sink in, the same shadowy presence that had lurked at the corner of Elamens mind since she witnessed the pitiful amalgamation that had once been a person, screaming helpless cries to lure others to a similar fate.
Still that dread had been held back by the blaze of protective ferocity that had kindled in her chest at seeing her brother transformed into a primal version of himself. Worry for Shinobu and the owlbears fed the fire in her chest and kept the icy edges of that creeping dread from taking root.
When they entered the throne room and were met with the man that had done all of this Elamen felt the dread bite deep into her, the frosty cold trying to numb her mind as she looked upon the accelerated sickness of two mighty and well-loved animals.
She didn’t start her song, didn’t for one moment want to record this twist in their path. Instead, she locked her eyes on the forms of her companion's backs and accelerated them into battle, giving their feet the magic wings that flashed them across the battle towards their enemy. The bow given to her by the Hawks Cowl seemed to jump into her hand as for the first time in her journey she directed the battle. “Kill him, concentrate on the puppet master.” And letting an arrow fly, though it was beyond her normal range she hoped that it would find its mark in the flesh of this man-shaped monster. The arrow missed and she slung the bow onto her back, watching the men that trusted her flash past the owl bears and towards the cleverer threat.
Spinning on her heel she looked at the two mournful faces of the animals she had spent hours loving on and playing with, sleeping next to and riding. These creatures had defended her just as fiercely as her own brothers. Magical stairs jumped into existence at her side and she dashed up them, nearly sideways calling to the animals to follow her. If she could just study what had happened, she could fix it, she had learned so much healing for mending flesh, for stopping poison, for reversing disease, she had to be able to fix it.
It was while she twisted by her coat in Talonpaws jaws that she found her answer. The stitches running along the owlbears body, the twang and snap of the guitar like strings coming from under the skin. The fact that the creature was still moving after the light had left its sorrowful eyes. When she’d called him the puppet master, she had meant it figuratively, but this was not magic, this was another horrible machine like the poor elephants at the boarders. Her heart tried to sink into the heavy waters of sorrow before it became buoyed again by rage.
She may not be able to undo the mechanical devilry he’d enacted on the owlbears but she could make sure this was his only chapter in this story. Leaping from the stairs and dashing across the empty floor to join her brothers she finally took up her drum and began to weave the story into reality, starting with putting her brothers back together.

The Jabberkinies are welcome in most places with more enthusiasm than those receiving nobles with. They are close friends with good hosts, and many retired adventurers.
