Personal history
Shaylen grew up with the wandering nomadic tribe of people known as the Kattegat. They hunt, forage, trade, and bring their services to anyone who might require them. The life of a Kattegat tribesman or woman is one that is always on the move and never in one place for too long. Growing up, Shaylen had a stable group of friends and when she was old enough to hold a sword, her mother Ignatia made sure she knew how to use one. Shaylen went to the school with the other children to learn how to read and write. On top of that, Ignatia taught Shaylen the ways of the Skofnung Runes, since the Skofnung Isles were the homeland of her mother.
Besides the runes, Ignatia made even more sure that Shaylen knew how to speak Elvish. This wasn't impossible since there were many elves and half-elves like Shaylen within the tribe. Shaylen knew that she was a half-elf and when asking her mother about who her father was, Ignatia would never tell her much. As Shaylen got older, she figured that her father might've been some prissy in-keep or a quiet farmer who didn't want to break his wife's heart. Every year on her birthday, Shaylen was given a bead by her mother, and when asked about where she found them, Ignatia would put her finger to her lips and say that it was a secret.
Shaylen proved to be quite skilled with a sword, and even though this was the case, Shaylen took a particular liking to the glaive. Switching her attention to this weapon, Shaylen studied under a master within the tribe known as Cahtemeck, who was from the southern continent of Gondwana. Shaylen had always taken a liking to the wildlands and would run off with her friends to try and find monsters. Ignatia took note of this, and began to teach her daughter the ways of the Spirit Walker. Always being an adventurous spirit, Shaylen told her mother that she wished to leave the Kattegat and explore the world outside the confines of the tribe. Ignatia supported her daughters decision, knowing that she'd find her own way as she once did. As a parting gift, Ignatia gave Shaylen a necklace formed from all the beads that she had given her over the years. Putting the beads on her glaive, Shaylen set out to find her own way.
