Education
Veyrith has some magical education, mostly having been self-taught by books and scrolls, buts of lore gathered over the last few years, giving him a patchwork education.
Much of his 'education' came from his life running scams on the streets, where he mastered reading people, persuasion, and the ability to manipulate his appearances to gain people's trust.
Accomplishments & Achievements
Despite running a scam revolving around it, Veyrith became skilled at fortune-telling, weaving convincing stories to keep clients enthralled. He developed a reputation as a bit of a mystic, drawing crowds and using those skills to build a place for himself, even if the foundation was made from deceit.
Failures & Embarrassments
During his early fortune-telling days, Veyrith was caught and exposed as a fraud by a particularly observant village leader, leading to a small, but public humiliation. He was run out of the village under a shower of jeers, with a swift kick to his pride. While it bruised his ego, he was convinced to refine his deception skills for his eventual return.
Veyrith briefly practiced formally under a traveling hedge wizard, who dismissed him for being "too distracted and unreliable". He learned a few tricks, but the rejection still stings, as he lost the chance at a formal education.
Mental Trauma
Growing up in the shadow of his mother's reputation and his father's absence, Veyrith often feels like an outsider. He finds himself craving validation often, which he spent his early years seeking as praise from clients, or through his trickster persona. He has a deep-rooted fear that anyone he lets get too close will leave him, resulting in him keeping even great allies at arm's length.
While he plays the part of a confident rogue, Veyrith does sometimes feel guilt over the people he's deceived in exchange for coin. He tries to dismiss it as necessary, but the faces of those he's mislead for profit still haunt him.
Intellectual Characteristics
Veyrith is a resourceful problem solver, sharp and adaptable, filled to the brim with eclectic knowledge.
He is cynical regarding others' intentions, expecting deception, manipulation and hidden motives. Being skeptical keeps him alert, but also limits his ability to trust others, holding him back in his teamwork.
Morality & Philosophy
Veyrith sees truth as a malleable concept. While he doesn't value honest for its own sake, he does believe in the importance of protecting those he cares about. This can lead him to justify manipulating the truth to survive or protect himself.
Veyrith prioritizes knowledge and survival over empathy. He believes knowledge is a form of power, and that understanding the world and its secrets are more valuable than sympathy or kindness.
Personality
Motivation
Veyrith is haunted by the feeling that he’s inherited both power and darkness from his parents. He’s driven by a desire to prove he’s more than just a fortune-teller and fraud, striving to find a place where he belongs in the world.
Quotes & Catchphrases

Savvies & Ineptitudes
Veyrith is an insightful manipulator, with a keen eye and ear for catching peoples motivations and playing at them to steer conversations in the right direction.
He is, however, overly cautious, slow to trust others and prone to second-guessing himself, which can lead to him delaying making decisions in tense situations.
Likes & Dislikes
Veyrith enjoys the dark, especially on a night with clear open skies, good for stargazing. For all his con artistry, Veyrith enjoys reading esoteric lore, especially when it regards fate, magic and otherworldly beings.
His chief dislike is direct confrontation. He prefers subtlety, and despises using brute force, finding such things to be tiring and crude. He also dislikes particularly mundane or overly direct questions, preferring to answer them with his own questions.
Virtues & Personality perks
While he's slow to trust, once his loyalty is gained it is incredibly fierce. This can lead to him taking some self-destructive, morally grey actions to help those he cares about.
He's also a natural charmer, able to talk himself out of just about anything using his natural allure.
While it might not be a 'perk' in the traditional sense, Veyrith is morally flexible, often coming up with pragmatic solutions that let him navigate morally complex situations with ease.
Vices & Personality flaws
Even when the truth would serve him just as well, Veyrith has a habit of embellishing and distorting the truth, making him difficult to trust. he also tends to keep his own plans and motives hidden, which can make him a frustrating ally to have, for those expecting transparency.
With his own past full of lies and scams, Veyrith himself is slow to trust others, often reading too far into their possible ulterior motives. He is also very secure in his own knowledge, often dismissing others perspectives, if they don't fit his own experience or expertise.
Personality Quirks
Veyrith tends to hum eerie, repetitive tunes under his breath, especially when he's focused on a task or deep in thought.
He often wears an unsettling smirk, even in the face of great danger - a habit from his scam artist days.
Hygiene
Veyrith has an unusual relationship with cleanliness. He’s not unkempt but gravitates toward an almost natural cleanliness. He smells faintly of old paper and herbs, likely due to time spent with ancient tomes and magical reagents. He often keeps his nails (or claws) impeccably trimmed and his hair clean, though it may appear slightly disheveled, as if he’s more interested in comfort than appearance.

Family Ties
Good ol' mom is still hanging around, to everyone's surprise.
Religious Views
Veyrith never held a particularly deep reverence for the primal forces that created the world. He's skeptical about offering service to intangible, untouchable and silent forces that don't impact his daily life. To him, these feel more like a collective illusion, a critch for those seeking comfort in forces beyond their control.
This world doesn't recognize any traditional 'deities', and instead reveres the primal energies that made the world, but now, The Twilight Sovereign that perhaps greater forces are at work here. Their pact is one of mutual benefit, and not of blind faith, and that feels quite real.
Mannerisms
When he's deep in thought, he tends to twirl his familiar's tail between his fingers idly.
Hobbies & Pets
Astrylix (uh.straɪ.lɪks / "uh stry licks"), his familiar, a bizarre cross between a crow or vulture and a dragon.
Speech
Veyrith has the ability to be quite eloquent, smooth and almost lyrical. He tends to use evocative language, leaving just enough unsaid to keep people listening. He's also sarcastic and witty, with dry, biting humor. He speaks with deliberate pacing in a low, almost velvety tone, a touch husky, carrying an alluring, yet unsettling quality. Finally, he has a habit of using either foreboding or poetic phrasing - leaving listeners wondering if they've been given words of caution.
