Personal history

Born in the lands of the secretive Magocracy of Halruaa, Casin displayed talent in the magical arts from a young age. He would be enrolled in a local academy to hone his skills, quickly displaying his talent to the various masters that oversaw the establishment.
 
Upon his graduation, he returned to his home village, taking guidance under the Head Wizard as one of the man's apprentices. He would go on to be one of his master's most trusted partners; an act which would bring him relatively high status within his home and among his people. In the years following, he would marry one of his childhood friends and have a single child with them - a daughter, whom he valued more than life itself.
 
Things would continue along a rather positive path for him until the Second Sundering came into occurrence, ripping Halruaa back into the world of Toril. His village would suffer minimal damage during the transfer; however, strange happenings would begin occurring in the weeks following. Initially, a villager would go missing here and there, leaving no trace, never to be seen again. But over time this number would begin steadily increasing, until there was at least one disappearance each day.
 
It was long believed to be some sort of incursion from the outside lands, as their village was right along the borders of the Magocracy's territory. A theory which would reach its incorrect conclusion one dark, fog-ridden night when a large creature of unknown origin attacked the village. Virtually every building was leveled during the attack and every inhabitant, save for Casin, was slain by the beast.
 
When a trade caravan came upon the village some days later, they would find him alone inside what was left of his home. When questioned, he stated that he had been out on travels making his way back home when he came upon the scene. Due to his status, registered reports of missing persons and the sheer level of destruction and brutality of what had occurred, he was never held suspect or disbelieved.
 
In reality, he had been present there during the entirety of the attack. He ferried away his wife and child to his home before going off with the Guard in an attempt to fight the beast. Their failure was met with death; save, for him. For unknown reasons the creature left him unharmed. Untouched. It ignored him up until the very end, where it simply stood where it was and stared at him for minutes before it would finally run off into the mists.
 
He relocated to a nearby village where he stewed. Months would pass with no other mention of the creature's actions anywhere else in Halruua. He would eventually take it upon himself to search out the creature, leaving his homeland and venturing out deeper and deeper into foreign lands.
 
His travels and successive failures brought him into deeper and deeper depressive states of mind; while his ventures outside would bring him into contact with entities and people's that would come to change his life - for better or worse. Ever the purist and isolationist nation, Halruua has next to no acceptance for variances in religious worship. A fact Casin would readily experience once his new "views" came into discovery, prompting a swift exile to follow atop his previous losses.
 
Home, family and friends gone. His only reason to continue from that moment on was to find the thing that caused this change in the course of his life.
