Gloriana and younger sister Lylah LaMorte were born to tiefling father M'lachai LaMorte and elven mother Zelphine, and their family ran one of the main undertaking services for the city. Glory was the one who assisted their mother with the embalming process and comforting grieving families with kind words and soft voices, while Lylah assisted their father more with the graves themselves. Glory often knew just the right words to comfort people or at least put their minds at ease, how to tell them what they wanted to hear. She went to the temple of Selune with her mother and had a penchant for healing and reading fortunes, and the leader of the temple considered her to be blessed by the goddess. However, Gloriana soon realized she could predict how people were going to die, and more often than not it was correct. Her sister Lylah was the less sociable of the two, and she didn't always get along with Gloriana. She noticed that Glory had become more distracted, and the two decided that perhaps they needed to go out on their own. The sisters ended up forming an adventuring party and became quite powerful, but conflict happened between Gloriana and Lylah that broke up the party entirely. Lylah ended up returning home to run the mortuary, and Gloriana's best friend and party member, halfling Beatrix 'Trixie' Tremaine, introduced her to a kenku man named Cornelius Krane. He was the ringmaster of the Cirque Du Delirium, and he helped her set up her fortune telling business within the circus. Glory later learned that while Cornelius is the ringmaster, he's also a master assassin for the Thieves' Guild, and that many members of the circus are part of the guild as well. She became his confidant for many of his jobs, and assisted with some small jobs herself.
The Cirque Du Delirium was run and owned by a Kenku man named Cornelius Krane. The circus was mostly a front for his real activities as a spy and assassin for various organizations across the continent, but he was the Ringmaster of the Cirque, and had a soft spot for outcasts. Those who worked for him considered their little band of misfits a family. On a job in the city where the LaMorte family lived, he heard tales of the enigmatic blue tiefling woman, raised by the city's main grave keeping family and blessed by the goddess Selune with the ability to predict ones death. She had recently returned to the city after a falling out with her adventuring party, so Cornelius offered her a job as the Circus's Fortune Teller, and later as his coconspirator as a spy. It's where she met and became best friends with the semi-renown Halfling bard Beatrix "Trixie" Tremaine, as well as the twin half-Elf sisters Juliet and Natasha Alpine, who were both acrobats and contortionists. Amongst the rest of the Circus crew was the human strongman Johan Brawnwyn, a dwarven man named Fergus Ashbelly was the firebreather and sword swallower, and the silver Dragonborn songstress Elspeth Silverscale who worked with Trixie. There were two Orcs who stood guard and kept the rabble down to a minimum, whose names were Gorge and Lorna, but they weren't the most social outside of Lorna's relationship with her husband Fergus. The circus travelled all along the continents, and even into the Feywilds, mainly because Cornelius had a contract sending him there. Gloriana had been to the Feywilds briefly and knew just how sinister it could be behind the ethereality, so she was a bit hesitant to go back, but Cornelius assured her that they would be fine and they soon left after his job was done.
It was there at the show where Lord Althidan first got a glimpse of Gloriana. She caught his attention, a welcome distraction from the monotony of the Unseelie Court of which he belonged to but had no responsibility in. He did not make himself known in the beginning, amused by the little tiefling who could tell people's fortune, but chose to tell them what they wanted to hear, or give them a bad fortune if they displeased her in some way. Intrigued, he followed after the circus after Cornelius's job was done and the show was over, presenting himself as a rather posh looking Drow going by the name Alistair Shadowwood. He went to her tent and paid to have his fortune told as a way to observe her up close. Glory told him that she could see that he was running from something, and that no matter where he went, it would catch up to him. She went on further to say that despite his past, a blessing would come to him, and that he would know it when he met it. This bit of knowledge was trivial in his opinion, as mortals could lie, but he suspected that there was a bit of truth to the words and decided to continue following the Cirque. Gloriana recognized him from the show, but did not reveal to him that she knew he was Fey. She had no idea that he was an Arch Fey, just that he was one of the Fey she saw in the crowd during the performances. He became enamored with Madame LaMorte, and met her at the end of the night after each show was done. After about eight months of traveling with her and the rest of the circus, he was called back to the Court unexpectedly, and did not have a chance to say goodbye. He left before Gloriana could tell him that she was pregnant. Cornelius and Beatrix, having become close to her and considering her family, helped her through this difficult time and helped her relocate. Beatrix stayed within the capital and was the one who delivered her child, a lovely little girl with skin the color of midnight. Glory loved that, and so Midnight was her name.
