- A favorite drink of hers was this salty & sweet fermented drink created by magical bacteria from sulfur deposits. This drink is heavier than the water it is made in and therefore can be poured into a cup and consumed, even underwater. For this reason cups have been designed with waved edges; these create a more direct sipping point, as the surface tension held by this drink commonly has it flowing over the edges of the cup and dribbling on the unexperienced.

Autumn's Primer.
(backstory context and orientation for opening scene)
Born in Aqu'tana, Osyn was born into a society of watchers; appointed guardians both as a self-imposed moral code and perhaps as event deemed, by destiny. The settlement under the sea was established several hundred years ago, in response to a rift opened to the Plane of Water. For Tritons among the water plane, this isn't particularly bizarre from their side, but for those on the Material Plane this can have devastating consequences when titanic creatures are able to cross realms. For that reason, Triton society takes up post to monitor and control these portals; these can last hundreds, if not a thousands years, before dissolving and reappearing somewhere else in what is a seemingly eternal cycle. In that effort, Tritons have learned that allies can be found on this plane and among the dry lands. That is where you come in: the Llathian house has assumed the role of filling any and all diplomatic ranks for the outpost.
This never completely sat right with you- all the structure and planning and regiments for the rest of what seemed like forever. So, upon being assigned your first diplomatic

Notes about backstory.
Born to a "noble family in the city" has a different meaning for Tritons. The city is more of an outpost, growing to suit the needs of a people that are there to guard and keep peace. Noble families are simply the relatives that live a slightly more privileged life as a benefit of their station. Ambassadors simply have more connections and therefore are closer to decision making about things that influence their interests.
Beginner ambassador responsibilities. Maybe administrative work?

Personal history
Osyn was born to a noble family in the underwater city of Aqu'tana. She never went hungry, was taught magic and languages and various instruments, and given an exceptional education. Her parents were respected ambassadors to the surface lands along the Crystal Coast, whose positions ensure Osyn’s cushy lifestyle.
So, of course, Osyn wanted more. Her life was fine, but it was boring. She would have to marry another noble and succeed her parents in their roles and deal with trade and political ties and sit in open halls all day discussing whether or not a township should change their fishing routes to accommodate a surface city’s armada.
Once she was an adult, and she started taking on beginner ambassador responsibilities, she decided that she was going to leave. She had a few friends of course, but she didn’t dare tell them her plans. Not many Triton left Aqu'tana for the surface, and if she had mentioned it, they would absolutely try and talk her down. She wasn’t sure when she was going to do it, but she had to do it soon.
So, one day a few months after her 23rd birthday, on one of her first solo diplomatic missions to one of the coastal settlements, Osyn found herself in a tavern, with one too many drinks in her system, playing a game of cards with a pair of characters dressed in silks and sashes, with swords at their hips and scars and tattoos across their arms.
And she lost. Big time. She had wagered all her gold, and was getting close to losing the clothes on her back, when a much more imposing figure sat down at the table next to her.
The rather bulky Tiefling with long, dark hair curled around their shoulders and even darker, sharp eyes, looked at her and said, “You’re not doing very well. Watch this.”
They then proceeded to sweep the entire table, Osyn included, and before she could explain that she didn’t have the funds to pay up, the tiefling slid her half the pile of winnings. “Don’t make bets you can’t win, kiddo.” and then they looked to the other two at the table and said, “And you two, don’t take advantage of the sea folk, they have different ways of playing betting games. If you had let her pick the rules, you’d have lost the damn ship by now.”
The pair complained, but begrudgingly apologized to Osyn, and their captain.
And that’s how she met Captain Dash Killoran, of the pirate ship currently known as The Secret.
After drunkenly stumbling to her room in the tavern that night, Osyn woke to shouting and screaming, and the tavern on fire around her. She gathered what she could from her room and tried to find the escorts that had come with her on this mission, to no avail. She miraculously made it out of the burning building, only to find the rest of the town around her suffering from the same fate. She later learned that the town had been attacked by a rival settlement in an effort to take over the small port that it held. There didn’t seem to be many options in terms of escaping, so she dashed to the docks, to where a giant ship was unfurling its sails. The gangplank was being raised, and she shouted up at the crew to let her on.
And thankfully, the pair pulling up the gangplank were the same pair that had almost taken all of her money in the tavern. They helped her get on board and brought her up to the captain’s quarters, where she waited until the ship made it out into open waters. Captain Killoran had intended to drop her off at the next town over, but she begged them to let her stay. She could fish and supply them with food, she spoke several languages, and knew a lot about the coastal towns due to her parents. And she could sing. Killoran introduced her to the resident magic user on the ship, a storm sorceress half-elf named Polina. Osyn learned that her training in speaking with people could be interwoven with magic and empowered. And as it turns out, singing can provide very good moral support.
And so Osyn earned her keep on the ship, learned to infuse her words and songs with magic, and pretty much everything else necessary to keep a ship going. They crew all shared tasks and shifted through jobs, so learning how to do everything, at least a little bit well, was necessary for survival. She became close with Polina and Killoran, and after a year and a half on the ship, The Secret became a well known name in the Pirate Isles. One thing Osyn never learned, though, was to not place bets she couldn’t win. She had gotten in a bind more than once in the ports they visited due to a bad bet, or trying to snatch little things from markets when she thought no one would notice. But, of course, someone often noticed. What was she supposed to do? It was fun, didn’t put anyone in too much danger, and she knew that her crew had her back.
Until, somewhere late at night in the Pirate Isles, Osyn may have angered the wrong folks one too many times. She may have bet a favor when she shouldn’t have bet a favor, and she may have ended up attempting to steal something way above her pay grade when that favor was cashed. A pair of pirates had asked her to nab a prized cutlass from a renowned pirate captain, and she agreed, and she ended up kneeling on the deck of said captain’s ship, about to have her head delicately separated from her shoulders (she hoped).
In her desperation, she attempted to sway the crew (and even the captain himself) with her charming tunes and distracted them with stories, trying to hold off long enough for Polina to teleport onto the ship and whisk her away, or for Killoran to sneak behind the captain and barter his life for hers. But they never came. Why didn’t they come to help her?
Somehow, Osyn twisted her way out of a swift execution, and was instead kept as a prisoner on board, providing translations and petty charms and little songs around the lamplight to entertain the crew that kept her captive. The ship eventually made its way up the Crystal Coast, docking in Venic (?) to do some illicit trading. Osyn made a break for it as soon as she saw a chance and thanked her lucky stars (sea stars ofc) that she was able to make it off the ship with her life.
So there she was, in a new city, alone again, broke again, trying to start over. Maybe she could pick up a legitimate gig here and there while she tried to get information on The Secret and its crew, to see if anything had happened to them, if her friends were okay, or if they were even alive. Of course, they could have just left her to rot after one too many gambling adventures gone south, but that didn’t seem like them at all, especially not after almost two years of traveling together.
Something big must have happened, and Osyn needed to figure out what that was.
