Session 18: A Man of Mist Report

General Summary

Sleeping through the daylight hours, Osa is suddenly awakened by a calling voice in her mind. She climbs out of the bathtub she was curled up in and lumbers towards the window in the living room, opening it mindlessly to allow the eerie green mist to pour in. As she's embraced by the mist, Frances stirs to discover what Osa is doing and decides to awaken her domitor instead of fucking with a vampire double her size. One by one, the coterie is awakened to learn of Osa's strange behavior as well as how the fog seems to be keeping harmful rays of sunlight out. The inherit danger of her actions seems to subside until they notice the almost sentient crawling of the mist towards their hotel door, only to crawl underneath it into the hallway.   Meanwhile, Osa is spoken to by a geist in her mind. The spirit reveals itself to be a young greaser named Tommy and he's looking for his fetter. He says he can't tell her what it is because he can't trust her to keep it between them, but begs her to thwart her friend's attempts at finding it to give him enough time to locate it.

"Do you believe in true love, pussycat?"
Although Osa is unsure at first, she eventually agrees knowing that if anything the fetter belongs to the ghost and he should be the one to have it, not whoever this Dr. Blight guy is. Once she seems to be on his side, Tommy loosens his grip on her mind before fading away, Osa returning to reality. As she turns to leave their hotel room and open more windows, Eleanor is able to help Osa snap out of her trance, but is unaware of the fact that Osa doesn't necessarily plan to play along.   Over the course of a few hours, the coterie explores the hotel in search of the fetter, occasionally having to shake the sense back into each other as the mist pollutes their minds and compels them to open another window. The mist grows thicker and the rooms become stranger. In a few of the rooms, the coterie is tasked with solving a puzzle, usually finding an artifact as a reward. Adel finds a crystal ball, Eleanor finds a ring, and Magnus finds a spell book, and over time they discover that each of these items can be used psychically to either repel the mist or to seal off a window.   Towards the end of their investigation, Eleanor tries for a premonition and has a vision of a young couple staying in this hotel in the 50s. A sosh and a greaser, young and in love. The greaser gets a call on the hotel phone and has to leave in a hurry, but hides a small box in their hotel room before leaving. The girl is left to wait in their hotel room, but as time goes on it becomes more and more apparent that he doesn't come back.   Moved by this vision, Eleanor informs the group of what the hotel room looked like in her vision and they eventually find it. Together, they investigate the room and El is the one to discover the small object hidden away in the back of the wardrobe; An engagement ring. However- knowing now that Osa isn't to be trusted and that whatever is controlling the mist could be listening, she keeps the ring a secret and instead informs the group that they should just try to escape the hotel instead- winking very loudly at everyone else.   They make a break for the hotel lobby, and as the bellhop asks where they're going in a hurry, Adel pushes the exit door open. As soon as she does, suddenly the whole scene changes. It's nighttime... there's no security guard or hostess outside... the bellhop is gone... and so is the mist. They all feel sort of alone in the world until the ambient sounds of the city start to fade back in from the distance, but they're left jarred and wondering what the gaunt controlling the mist was capable of. They check their pockets and find their magical items are gone as well- likely by design.   Weirded out, they make their way to one of Dr. Blight's waygates- a crematorium in the city that Magnus informs the coterie they can use to get to the chantry.
