XXIV. A Broken Thread

General Summary

At the end of the fight with the Fire Giants and Gnolls, Valoryn's eyes went black and he fainted into Lady Kohinoor's arms. While unconscious, he had a vision of a silvery thread trying to pull him in. The tension he felt at this made way for relief as the thread snapped, and then gave rise to excitement as he saw a vision of a sword he had been looking for for some time. Baui healed Valoryn a little bit, and Valoryn woke up. Upon waking, he kissed Lady Kohi on the forehead energetically before grabbing Akwele by the shoulders and sharing his energy with the giant man.   The party talked to the Dwarvish prisoner they had freed after fighting the Fire Giants and Gnolls that were keeping him. They were surprised to see that his cell seemed to be well furnished and his personal effects kept in the cell next to him, including armor and weapons. However, the Dwarf, Obmi explained that it was because he was a prince being held as a prisoner of war by the giants. Some of the party was suspicious that during the ten years he had been their captive, the Fire Giants had neither held him captive, nor had he tried to escape from them. Nonetheless, the party ended up asking him to help them in their find where King Snurrewould be.   After the party short rested in Snurre’s treasure hoard, they tried to find a way down to the lower level where they now knew Snurre would be hiding, thanks to Obmi’s information. Obmi seemed to have trouble remembering the layout of the fortress even though he had been tasked with keeping its accounts for ten years, but eventually the party found a point above the temple Snurre and his attendants had retreated to. Using the Marvelous Pigments, they again created a hole in the ground and took the giants by surprise as Akwele jumped down with Achilla and Lady Kohi in his arms, followed by the rest of the party.
