4 - Bad breath

General Summary

Something stinks..

The party made their way to Padstow on their Chocobo.   They arrived just in time to spot a small unit of Gridalian Military soldiers fighting with a Marlboro, led by the huge figure of Sige atop his powerful black Chocobo.   Zephyr Highwind recalled information about this group, it was a roaming unit of Gridalians, that travelled Eriad going wherever they please, fighting the toughest of monsters and the harshest of threats. This particular unit, led by Sige, was renowned for having the lowest casualty count of all.   They leap in to action, advised by Zar'ral Helvimtor on how to fight the beast, mostly managing to stay away from it's horrendous bad breath attack, inflicting ailments and damage on all those in it's way.   Kupo helped by healing those soliders who were wounded, although the unit as a whole was very well trained, sustaining no permanent injuries or casualties!   Vexacious Rein killed the beast with a thundering smash, and the group set about searching the 2 carts nearby, one of which had contained the Marlboro in a smuggling attempt. The other contained a giant scorpion, that was well bound, and swiftly put to death. The Tabaxi known as Plume in the Wind was also here, quite dead, slain by the Gridalian's as they fought the beasts.   Sige was not one for many words, offering a thanks before leaving with his men, for one final night of rest before they set out again.   The party splits.

Hats and gin..

Kupo headed off to Gundo's finest hats, intent on collecting his order. Unfortunately, it seems that Gundo had forgotten to fulfill it. He managed to weasle a little more gil out from the naive white mage before agreeing to have the order finished by the morning, along with some fine Moogle's day hats!   Meanwhilst, Zephyr had left to the Goat and Glass inn, where the Gridalian soldiers were staying. Zephyr bought them all drinks as thanks for their duties. Most it seemed, were a little hesitant to talk to Zephyr.   The group checked the local bounty board, finding 2 active jobs. One to clear out a local Troll's cave, and the other to assist in bridge repairs by being an escort. Both offered substantial rewards. There was also a note about a strange elf on the eastern bridge, offering up duels to anyone who passed, but this was listed as neither a job, nor a warning.   Kupo then found himself wandering around town, soon getting quite lost, before getting stuck in the middle of a bachelor party, trusting the first drink given to him before blacking out drunk.   Thus begins a long and confusing trail of events that led to the other 4 party members finding a nearly naked Kupo hanging upside down from a tree near the party.

Finally, some rest..

The group then found another inn, one which had free rooms this time. The Sunken Arrows. They had a peaceful nights rest.   The next day, they collected their order of hats, including the 3 special Moogle's day hats for Kupo, who handed some out as gifts.

Bounty time!

The group decided to head up in to the mountains, due north, in order to clear out the Troll that had settled too close to town. But first, they headed to the Bubbling Remedies alchemist store, owned by a Dwarf named Adgran. He wasn't very talkative, offering a few grunts and nods as he focused on his potion crafting.   The group bought some healing potions, and a supply of oil, knowing this was effective against Trolls when combined with fire. They then set off north.   It didn't take them long to find the lair, secreted away in a pitch black cave. They intended to build a pit trap in front of it's lair, before filling it with oil. (Despite not realizing perhaps 4 vials would not fill said hole, and may just trickle away down in to the earth) Zar'ral cast dancing lights, which drew the beast out by accident, and combat ensued.   As the beast lumbered forwards, lit up by a Faerie fire spell from Arrex Nairin, they noticed it had a Bugbear riding on it's back, as if it were an infant nestled against a parent, clearly quite close to each other in a form of codependency.   The group killed them both, then cut off their heads.

All in a day's work..

The group then head back in to town. Zar'ral went to Rose's Arsenal, a weapons store, and bought a hand crossbow from the owner, An older halfling woman named Rose, who unfortunately, had only one eye.   The party intends to continue searching for Atrix, to find more information about Kupo's bounty, and to head East, in to the mountains to find the Earth crystal.   Session end date - 17/1/279
