Session 9: Royal Ties

General Summary

The party had just entered the throne room of King Ruldon Everward Lunarion III when the young king had said Nakors name in recognition. The party was stunned at this revelation. He began to question Nakor, who was totally oblivious to most of the information presented by the king, and told him that he had lost his memory. Due to this, the king invited Nakor, and subsequently all his companions, to dinner at the castle that night so that they could discuss his lost memories.   The king's attention was then directed to Frances and her suggestion about the fate of her White Sentinels company. She presented the argument that she had worked out ahead of time and with some aid from Nakor, whom the king seemed to trust and tolerate more than what they had expected to be acceptable, the king seemed to be open to it. Although he didn't accept outright but said that he would think about it until that night.   They were then dismissed. As they left monsieur Rapopoux, who had been so shocked at Nakors behaviour that he hadn't opened his mouth for the entire meeting, asked how why they hadn't disclosed Nakors true identity. Frances who, along with the amnesiac himself, didn't know the truth told him that this was all new information for them too. He told them that things seemed bright for their suggestion. They decided to all head down to the trade office and work out a contract. After spending some time with the frankonian representative and working out a contract that would effectively relieve Frances' white sentinel company from the king's service and make them free to accept mercenary work unbound by the rest of the organization's activities.   The group then decided that they should probably get some better clothes if they were to dine with the king. They were pointed to a zimean tailor by Monsieur Rapopoux named Helga, who had a shop in the western part of town. When the party got there and entered the surprisingly well-filled store, they were greeted by the large and colourful man that was Helga. The party told him about their business and the excited tailor asked them to come back in a few hours.    In the meantime, the party went to the marketplace to look at the notice board located there to see if they could find some future work. There they found a mission asking for adventurers to investigate the catacombs underneath the Temple of Desna. After meeting up with the minister called Father Joseph the party were lead down into the catacombs which were haunted by strange sound during the nights but showed no suspicious activity during the day. They decided to come back another night.    They then went back to Helga's shop, which was called Zimean Styles and Services, where Dormaruk and Kazagal got some new outfits. Whilst they were putting them on and paying, Frances and Nakor went back to the Sour Barracuda where Nakor could change into his royal blue cloak. Whilst walking, Frances took the time to ask Nakor about his relationship with the king and the fact that he had been so quick to accept the fact that he was from Kang when the king had suggested such. Nakor had told him that he was just as curious about the situation as Frances. When they had all met up again, they marched back down to the castle.    After being lead inside by some guards, they met the current sergeant of Frances company Gunter. He seemed to be glad at Frances arrival and was hopeful that she would help them out of this situation. They then found themselves in the large royal dining room at a table filled with delicious food. The king introduced the two other people at the table. His wife Salofra Lunarion and the royal court wizard Julus Zahmexath. They began to talk and the truth of Nakors past now came to light, something which Kazagal had first been a bit nervous about. But now they all knew about the fact that Nakor was actually a prince from Kang. He had spent several visits to Aeryon at the Lunarion estate, where he grew close to the young man who would become king. King Ruldon told them that he had always idolized the prince from Kang.    As the night went on more and more secrets of Nakors previous decadent life came to light and it quickly became apparent that the king seemed to want to relive those wild days, especially when he presented some extremely rare and expensive drugs. Later on, after the king had let his wizard read through the contract presented by Frances, he signed and thus freed Frances old company from his service. To celebrate this, all except Frances agreed to partake in the exclusive drug presented by the king. As the night went on they realized that the king was not a very faithful husband and that he had prepared a more decadent celebration in his private chambers and he invited the party, especially Nakor. All except Frances came with him. Before they entered they all took a bit more of the drug, and Dormaruk and Kazagal blacked out completely.    As they entered the king's private chambers they were greeted by beautiful men and women all over the place. Nakor watched as Dormaruk made a girl shine his horns for him and Kazagal ran around showing of Timmy to everyone. Frances who had stayed in the dining hall watched as the court wizard Julus and the queen left, leaving her alone with her former companions. She discussed the details of the contract with a thankful Gunter, who assured her that she would hold full command of the company again, should she wish it.    After a while, Nakor was invited to the king's bed-chamber for a private talk. But before they entered Ruldon insisted on them taking a bit more of the drug. Somewhat suspicious, Nakor only took half the regular amount. But he still almost blacked out from the high. They entered and once they were inside Nakor only saw the queen lying alone in the king's bed. As he turned around he saw a group of six white sentinels standing with the king. The king explained that last he had visited Zarastil he had knowingly slept with the kings, then, wife to be. He had never forgiven him and he was now going to kill them both. The white sentinels began to approach Nakor, but before they started to beat him, he managed to get a magical message away to Frances, telling her that he was being attacked by the king's bodyguards. He was then punched, beat and kicked almost to unconsciousness.    But right as he felt the fear of death fill him, something awoke inside of him. Something deep-seated in his soul. Frances told Gunter to go gather the entire company and prepare them to leave at a moments notice. She then entered the king's private chambers. Right as she did Dormaruk and came to, and had begun to wander where Nakor was. Thats when both Dormaruk and Frances saw a light from the king's bedroom.    The little man known as Nakor had grown to about 7 feet tall. A pair of radiant wings had sprouted from his back, illuminating the room. His voice had grown deep and  now boomed throughout the halls.

You dare threaten a prince of heaven!
The guards had made a protective circle around the king, but when the angelic visage that Nakor now was threatened them, they began to waver a bit. As the door was opened out from the bedroom even Kazagal snapped back to reality. Frances, seeing the white sentinels protecting the king from Nakor, told her company mates that they no longer served the king and that they should walk away, which they did. The other two didn't even have the mental awareness to react as Nakor swopped down and grabbed the king by the neck. He threatened the king, burning radiant energy into his throat as he did.
Know that every breath you take from hereonout, you take because I allow you to do so!
As the white sentinels still in the kings employ prepared to defend their king, Frances managed to talk them down, before confronting Nakor, telling him to let the king go. The furious Nakor let his radiant gaze burn two marks into the kings cheeks, before tossing him to the other side of the room. Dormaruk realized that it was time to leave before shit really hit the fan and tried to get the queen to come with them, but she refused to move. Nakor began to fly out of the room and got into the dining from before the celestial energy that had taken a hold of him faded. He fell to the floor and collapsed by the dining table. Kazagal ran to his side and helped him up as he came to. The confused Nakor asked where he was and how they could have let a prince of Kang end up on the floor.    His memory had returned.
