Guardian Adventures: Episode 02 Report

General Summary

Scale, Thalia, and Flo find themselves in the Guild Hall and are catching up after the events of their last adventure at Cragmaw Cave. During this time a familiar character, a poorly rendered person enters the Hall looking for help. Approaching the group he reminds them that he is the Mayor from San Venwin and that he has come seeking help.

Mayer Shep Onner tells that party everything has been going well and according to plan, but that men have arrived from the Uttolot family to try and get in on the business and the secrets behind the pies. The party is unable to warp due to Chester being mysteriously absent, so they get mounts from the Gear Master and head out on the trail.

At the end of the first day of traveling, the party explains to Scale about their history with San Venwin and is then attacked by a being with a flaming pumpkin head, an Axe Beak, two bandit thugs, and an Ankheg. Shep hides and evades combat. The party is successful at defeating the attacking monsters. Thalia completes a successful investigation and learns the following about these monster's origins:

Arriving at the small village, the Blue Berries go to check in on the San Venwin Bakery. Scale meets Big Brother Boss and learns about why secrecy is paramount-- discrimination and prejudice against Goblins. Sclae suggests and Ankheg Pie which the Goblin leader thinks would be enjoyable for his people, but wouldn't sell well with Human patrons. The Party finds things well at the Bakery and head back to the village.

As the party is standing in the center of San Venwin, just outside the Mayor's Shop, Brad and his cronies approach the village leader and demand to be allowed to buy in to the business and its secrets. The Uttolot leader pushes the Mayor down and Flo and Thalia step up to defend him. As Brad talks down to Thalia, he learns that the Blue Berries are stakeholders and insists on being allowed to join. He promises that if he is denied, he will make the mayor and his business pay. Flo's use of Thamaturgy puts Brad into the Frightened Condition, but his fight or flight response is to fight as he pulls out his weapons.

Brad's continued egotism and disrespect trigger a fight. Flo attempts to stab him, but he deflects the spear strike with his pistol. Thalia transforms into a Giant Spider and begins to attack. Brad fires a shot at Scale and retreats. The Uttolot thugs spread out to attack the party from different angles. As the fight unfolds, one enemy is bitten in half by Thalia Giant Spider. Brad is killed and two of the Thugs escape out of the town through different paths.

Mayor Shep Onner thanks the party and gives them each three specialty pies that can help them to heal. The party makes their way back to the Guild Hall.
