General Summary

Back in Ahrensport

     
    • Arrived back in town on People’s Day (day of rest) -- pulling into the bay you notice that because of this it’s quiet, don’t see Slaax or Loois
  • Headed back to The Beached Whale, rest
  • PCs investigated orb using detect magic & found out that the orb was not technically magical in the sense that it hasn’t been imbued with magic from any of the known schools/types of magic, also used detect poison (none found)
  • Head down to breakfast & innkeeper (Prose Chinell) says there was a message dropped off for you earlier this morning -- message sealed with wax called them to Lord Vardas’s keep
  • Before going to Lord Vardas’s, Zoran pried up a floorboard and left the orb at the inn
At Lord Vardas's keep
  • When they arrive at Lord Vardas’s keep, see the father and daughter & middle aged elven lady from the ships in his office
  • Vardas says "we" heard that the products of the Ceptim Bay were somehow contaminated a few days ago but that appears to have stopped
  • His people checked the port’s logs, and you all were the only visitors that entered the city since the strangeness has stopped
  • His people theorized that “those plotters” in the Mitterdens may have tried to sicken his people to undermine the port & get more trade for themselves → wanted to know what the PCs know about it, and what connections they have to the Mitterdens
  • Surprise, opened a drawer and unfurled a scroll, cast “Zone of Truth” - Abe failed roll, Zoran passed and could lie
  • Vardas was suspicious of them especially since Zoran hid the truth somewhat, eventually PCs shared the whole truth and Vardas let them use the library, gave them a lead box for the orb, offered to write them a letter of rec for access to libraries in Isadell
  • He does believe that there may be spies in Mitterdens in Ahrensport, though, and since the PCs successfully dealt with the strange fish he would be inclined to employ them in trying to suss out anything strange in Mitterdens
  • Told them to come back the next day and bring the objects back to be cleared (orb, gold plates, mysterious pendant)
  • While in Vardas’ library, they found a small, red leather-bound book, handwritten in Common, which seemed out of place in Vardas’s library (Zoran rolled well to notice the book, but nothing in it jumped out as particularly relevant at this time) -- PCs don't know it yet, but this is Khalib Saphbran's ancestor's travel journal
  • Brought the items back, got the plates melted to gold so they could use it, lead box for the orb, pendant was given back, and got letter of rec address to the El'Tudiam dean saying that they had helped him and he was calling in a personal favor in requesting that they be granted access to whatever university resources they may seek during this visit
Things they want to do in future:
  • Isadell, to ask about pendant (story tellers at tavern? Books? Religious scholars? historians?)
  • Isadell, about the orb (reality altering substances -- alchemist? Effect reversal? Where was it created, by who, why?

  • Abe might wild shape/speak to animals to try to find more info (generally)
