Session 1: A Stolen Potion

General Summary

PROLOGUE: A Stolen Potion

**NOTE: Due to a failure on my part, I successfully only recorded the video of the session, not the audio. Because of this, there is no session video to provide.**
The sleepy inn of The Raven's Nook (also called the Raven's Perch) was disrupted on several occasions as three travelers entered for a place to eat and rest. The first, Torcanimir, was received in awed respect. The second, Indra Ravensway, received only hostility and disgust. The third in turn received even more curious glances as the youthful Brooklyn Sunmeadow came in and happily sat down with the other strange individuals. After some general conversations centered on everyone else's scarred faces and some peculiar smalltalk about where Halflings come from, the fragile calm of the inn was shattered by the entrance of Madrigol.
By eavesdropping - and being volunteered by the hapless Banders - the trio soon learned that Madrigol's husband Vronick had fallen ill with Swamp Gas Plague, also known as Marsh Sickness. The local herbalist had prepared a Potion of Vitality to cure him, but before it could be administered a short-statured thief had seized the potion and escaped into the nearby woods. The trio agreed to investigate further and went with the halfling woman to her home.
Arriving at Madrigol's home, the trio conferred with Hammond about the sickness and asked why a new potion had not been brewed, and Hammond explained that it would take 32 hours to brew another, by which time it would be likely that Vronick would die. After searching around the space, the trio discovered a considerable amount of mud that implied the thief had come from the marshes and then fled into the trees. They began a quick pursuit - delayed mainly by the fact that none of the crew had much aptitude for tracking the stealthy footprints, which were recognized as a Goblin's 4-toed foot.   Brooklyn hitched a ride atop Torcanimir's shoulders as they wandered an hour in the darkness, but it was Indra who noticed a campfire in the nearby. The team attempted to sneak closer, but Torcanimir broke a fallen log that gave away their position. The fire was quickly doused, and an arrow loosed from the darkness that clattered harmlessly on his armor. Brooklyn immediately illuminated the darkness with her Dancing Lights, and Torcanimir rushed in and attempted to Sacred Flame the Goblin he discovered there - missing entirely. However, the Goblin (later learned to be named Drux the Ironhearted) surrendered without a struggle, pleading for them to not hurt him or "Kitty."

Upon discussing further, it turned out that "Kitty" was a baby Kobold with a malformed leg. Drux had found Kitty and wanted to heal it, which was why he had stolen the Potion of Vitality. After considerable cajoling and persuading, he at last turned over the stolen potion after securing a promise that another potion would be made for Kitty. But before the matter could be ended, a pack of wolves lunged out of the darkness and attacked. The battle almost led to the death of Drux, but the team was able to fight the creatures off by working together.   Following the fight, Drux asked the three to come with him back to his clan where his chief, Barflul, was urgently seeking assistance from adventurers. After debating a course of action, Indra and Drux decided to remain with Kitty in the woods for the evening while Torcanimir and Brooklyn returned to Ravendale to deliver the potion. While there, they received a reward from Madrigol and discussed another potion creation with Hammond. After much thought regarding the situation described - though led to believe it was to regenerate the leg of Indra, who had not returned - Hammond deduced he could make a Potion of Regeneration, but it would take some time as he stockpiled more doses of Potions of Vitality to prevent the Marsh Sickness from becoming an epidemic. Satisfied, Torcanimir and Brooklyn went to Bander's inn and requested the dditional recompense requested of them when Banders tried to pass off free room and board for a few days as their only reward. banders reluctantly agreed to provide them with an additional 10 sp and 2 gp, then reneged when he learned that they wanted to bring back Indra and another to have free room and board. Disgusted, Torcanimir departed the inn, and Brooklyn did likewise before having her familiar, Edyn, steal the money coffer that Banders had replaced.   Back at the forest clearing, Indra and Drux discussed the unfortunate lot that fate had thrown to "monstrous races" and barely touched on the upcoming quest that Barflul would ask of them. When Brooklyn and Torcanimir returned, they all settled in for the evening after some more discussion, and achieved a long rest.
