Session 19: Zombies, Zombies and More Zombies Report

General Summary

WAVE ECHO CAVE

  • Continuing at the blast furnace, the party shifts from the flame skull back to the zombies. All of the zombies are the dead dwarves and orcs from the intense battle centuries before.
  • The fight remains fairly steady though a number of other zombies arise from the rubble near Varis who wind up surrounding him.
  • In a swift move that helps change the tide of battle, Dakari Akinjide channels his divinity to turn the undead. Five of the nine zombies are turned and begin to cower in fear from Dakari.
  • As an attempt to get the upper hand, Varis attempts to climb the water wheel for a good vantage point but winds up falling into the empty water channel.
  • The party continues to attack the zombies who, in their fear, continue to flee Dakari. Some wind up in the empty water channel and continue to flee while Nyx Ningel works to lead them farther north towards the higher ledge near the running water.
  • As Varis proceeds north up the water channel, he exhorts the party to move beyond their fighting towards rest and encourages everyone to head back to Phandalin to the inn for some food, drink and lodging. Unfortunately, the other party members remain committed to searching out the cave and heartily decline his request.
  • After the party states their intent, Sildar Hallwinter opens up and tells Varis that he might be careful heading back to Phandalin. Apparently, Harbin Wester has learned of Varis' disguising himself as the townmaster and is not pleased. It is unclear what might happen if he was to return to the village.
  • Shortly after, donaar ironhide tries to pursuade Sildar to sell him his heavy crossbow. Despite a wonderful attempt, Sildar laughs him off and doesn't want to sell as it is a weapon that has been in his family for a long time. Despite this, Sildar does offer the party 500gp once they get back to Phandalin for helping find Gundren Rockseeker and the cave.
  • In time, the party chips away at the zombies which includes Dakari helping to corral them to fall off the nearby ledge.
  • With all of the zombies now dead, Donaar decides to check through all of the remains. While most of what he discovers is old and rusty, he does stumble upon a mace that is uniquely well preserved. There is some dwarven text on it that reveals the name is Lightbringer. It's head is shaped like a sunburst and is made of solid brass.
