Session 259 - Under Eagle Point
General Summary
27th of Agrazhar (Third month of Summer) 725TR
The story so far
Jolanta is hunting her hated rival, the renegade wizard Richemanus Hyrdeman. He has shown interest in one of Lothrim the Foulspawner lieutenants, the Egg Keeper, who centuries ago concealed some artifact called the Nest in Eagle Point, near the secret mining base, Fort Sirion.
The Heroes have saved Fort Sirion from a bloodthirsty Orcish army. The grateful miners have guided the heroes to Eagle Point. Here they find an underground cave network. Unfortunately, it is infested with yet more Foulspawn.
This is the continuation of Session 258 - The Hidden Fort.
Location - The foothills West of Lake Benath near the Rayesha Mountains.
Part 1 - Orcs and Wizards
The heroes continue the exploration of the caves network under Eagle Point and encounter another group of orcs well positioned on a ridge above. Worse they are accompanied by a Wizard. The heroes are initially confused but eventually make their way up the ridge and do battle. The enemy is soon hacked to pieces.
Finding a wooden-rope bridge that spans a deep chasm, the party rushes forward into another group of Black Orc sentries supported by two more human guards. The humans are eager to retreat, leaving the orcs to fight to the death. Unfortunately, one of the guards lets out a warning cry, alerting more enemies nearby. Avon, as usual, scouting forward approaches too close to a sequence of magical runes. After a magnetic burst, he finds himself restrained by bands of force. Jolanta activates her Psionic Power of Negation, enhanced by a magic potion, and creates a dome of antimagic enveloping Avon, cutting the force bands and freeing him from the magical confinement.
Avon spots a large well-lit chamber; it is occupied by orcs and men. Before he can investigate, a "window" of light suddenly appears behind him, near Jolanta, and a blast of energy emerges, damaging the Heroes. Quickly recognizing this, it is a tiny magical gateway created by a unique Earthmaster Artifacts, the Wicbeoch's Window. Her hated rival, Richemanus Hyrdeman, stole the same artifact years ago (refer to Session 122 - Betrayal Most Foul). Thinking fast, Jolanta blocks the aperture with her psionic Negation field, preventing any other magical effects from emerging. Acheron sees his opportunity, trusts his luck, and dives through the window.
Part 2 - A Hated and Powerful Foe
Acheron emerges in a narrow passage; the renegade wizard Richemanus Hyrdeman and his human Bodyguard are nearby. The cagey wizard backs off, allowing the Bodyguard to engage Acheron. He is a highly skilled swordsman and a good match for Acheron. Meanwhile, Avon, Blaine, and Moneypenny deal with two more human guards and four raging but very capable Black Orc warriors.
The large chamber contains tents, campfires, and a large artificial hemisphere at least 15ft in diameter made of black crystalline material. This seems of some importance.
The other enemy spellcaster emerges and throws a blasting spell which knocks Blaine off his feet, and he is at the mercy of the last remaining orc and guard. Jolanta kills this evildoer with an Ice Storm, draining the last charges from her magic staff. Meanwhile, Acheron uses his remaining healing but is still severely disadvantaged against Richmanus's Bodyguard, who has shrugged off the temporary blindness.
