Face Stealing Report
General Summary
We arrive in Ishlav and find a place to get Karna a new face. While there there is yelling in the street from someone yelling about how "Harold stole [his] face!". This man claims to be "a very important person!" (a certain Whilhem Whethern ). He's very self-important and kinda rude, he gets frustrated when we return that with some of our own snark. He tries to storm off, Yfra follows and watches him get turned away from his "own home" and then 'rescued' him from being taken in by the guard for impersonating Whilhem. We do end up taking him into a guard station to see if there is a file with any other biometrics that could be used. An old friend of Hamilcar's, Ebon, is there. They try to match his fingerprints to the file they have due to a recent break in at Whilhem's place and find there is no match. He's ready to turn us all loose when Yfra mentions "Harold" and the "face stealing" at which point he's suddenly very interested as apparently this is part of an active investigation. He takes "Whilhem" into custody and when we ask if we can help tells us not to leave town and if they need us they can find us. We agree to meet at Hamilcar's place, a very spartan apartment with almost no sign of personal touches other than many stashed weapons. Fira No'Var and Augus return Karna and Laneries to their home and repair their farming equipment to a nearly new state. Meanwhile, Yfra learns that Hamilcar apparently used to be married and has two children, Asha (26, very similar dry demeanor to her father) and Tomer (21, much more effusive and openly resentful of how absent his father was growing up due to his job). They check in with them, essentially letting them know that Hamilcar is not dead, considering he did disappear to the obelisk and hasn't been back since. By the time we meet back up it's early evening, we decide to canvas the area and see if we can find the apparently "seedy" inn that Whilhem apparently woke up in. We eventually find someone who saw him coming from the direction of one of the outer rings. We make our way to the middle ring to see if we can find the trail there. The streets are sparsely populated and those who are out seem a little wary/uncomfortable. Without much to go on we enter a random inn, and the bartender there gives us a contact who might know more about the underground/unofficial surgery shops in the outer circle (Wulfa ). We make our way to the outer rings noticing the streets are more and more empty as we get to more and more shabby areas. We find a small square in which there is a sort of night market and find Wulfa Yfra convinces her she wants Harold's services due to being on the run from the law and therefore needs something quick and very off the books. We get a location and go there, meeting a slightly short gentleman who insists that all of Yfra's friends leave in order to do his "artistry". Fira reveals a hidden passage with a very surprised blue-robed monk behind an energy field. We manage to play it off and Yfra agrees to have us leave and pick a face... he has a catalogue of sorts including "Whilhem's" new face. Nothing particularly suspicious other than the shadiness of it in general happens otherwise and so Yfra puts it off by acting indecisive and saying she needs to confer with her friends. We leave for now, planning to return to investigate further in the morning. First thing in the morning we go to Whilhem's place and manage to get an appointment with him (import/export, we have interesting goods). The place is extremely ostentatious... explosion of wealth and bad taste. The gentleman is nothing like the man we met yesterday, tall and thin, prominent cheekboned very ostentatiously dressed. When we are in his office Fira comes right out and asks him if he made a deal with Harold to become Whilhem, he lies saying that he didn't and refuses to answer further questions, calling in his guards.
