Session 3: The Summoning Ritual

After helping the dryad Elia’Natah return to her native plane, Lumee and Remee decide to rest for a while next to the Darkwater river in the Forest of Regrets. Remembering the locked wooden box that Bupu had given them, Remee tried to pick its lock once again. Unfortunately, the lock would prove to exceed her lockpicking abilities, and without a better plan, they decide to smash the box against a nearby rock to see what it contained.

Breaking the box, a crude notebook falls off, and Lumee spends the next hours reading through it. It was quite old (maybe decades old) and written in gnomish. She learned it was once the journal of the gnome called Olin, exiled from the town of Greyrock some 50 years ago. In his journal, Olin tells his side of the story about his exile. He doesn't trust Greyrock's council of elders and thinks they hide some dark secret. The last entries tell of his next destination, somewhere to the west, through the Sea of Stars.

The Angel's Fall

After reading through Olin's journal, the girls decide to follow the crystal's trail and head south toward the Angel's Fall. With Bupu following them, they follow the river until they leave the forest, and then set up camp. They continue their journey the next day until a few hours later, they can finally hear the rumbling sounds of the waterfall known as the Angel's Fall. Standing on the edge of the fall, they see the big lake below them, as well as some makeshift tents along the shore. Strange people clad in black robes roam the encampment, preparing some sort of ritual on platforms built above the lake, using crystals stolen from Grayrock as components.

Thinking fast and trying to prevent the start of the ritual, Bupu tells Lumee he can convince one of the robed figures to jump into the lake. She agrees and the fairy dragon turns invisible and flies down towards one of the robed figures. Unfortunately, his spell fails and he desperately flies back to the girls while the cultist casts a firebolt spell at him. A couple of cultists start making their way up the path that leads to the top of the waterfall. While both Remee and Lumee pelt them with stones and even make one of them fall into the lake, they are forced to run back to the forest before the rest of the cultists start chasing them.

Once a safe distance away, both Lumee and Remee drop to the ground exhausted and as a feeling of hopelessness invades them, they cry before a now silent forest.
