C2S5: Running Through the Darkness (write-up)

General Summary

Old Svalich Road

  Taowhiri runs towards the cliff with Ireena and Torinn in tow. The cadavers wake and chase the rest of the party towards the cliff. As night falls and the three corpses are destroyed, Ingarok awakes. The party are chased up the slope to the top of the Tser Falls and across a bridge, at which point Senlin uses a Glyph of Warding to destroy three cadavers as they rush across the bridge. The Cadaver Lord escapes by casting darkness and disappearing into the night  

Making Camp

 

First Watch

The party rush half a mile down the road before finding a small copse of trees 50m across which they can take refuge in. They set down two tents (one for the Kolyanoviches and one for the party) in a cramped clearing and take watch. During the first watch between Tao and Torinn, Tao hears a whisper coming through the trees: "Come to me... I can give you power". Tao stated his refusal.   Ireena approached Taowhiri during the night whilst he was on guard. Spoke of how the Black Knight on the cliff had looked at her, as if he knew her, and questioned Tao on what it was. Tao refused to believe this, stating the knight was after him instead. When Ireena stated that Strahd had been terrorising her ancestors for centuries, Tao asked Ireena why she looked different from her brother ("the colour of your skin?") to which Ireena replied "brothers and sisters can look different, that is not unusual. My father is the Burgomaster. He raised me, and that is all I remember". Tao told Ireena she looked almost like an Islander who had passed through the Divine Gate, like himself. He told Ireena that he left Motu because it was boring and to pursue evil (he was actually trying to get away from evil). Ireena warned Tao that there has been evil ruling over this land for centuries, and that the Black Horseman was a new and different threat.  

Second Watch

During second watch, Carric was interrupted in the dark of night by Muriel Vinshaw, who advised Carric to seek out the Blue Water Inn in Vallaki to find friends. She warned the party not to trust the Vistani and that Strahd likely already knows they had been to the Tser Falls Encampment.  

Dawn

Senlin woke and joined Carric to discuss next steps. A rustling gave away Radu Radovich stealing from the party's tent, before he fled into the bushes.

Rewards Granted

Some gold on the cadavers.

Fought off Ingarok.
