Session 43: Camping In The Dark

General Summary

Seeing an eel-like shape breaking the surface of the murky water, Alden fired an arrow at it. The shape was one of the many tentacles on a large aboleth, which attacked, using psychic powers to confuse and damage the party. Besting it, the creature, named Walreqenarlathod, surrendered telepathically, offering information in exchange for its life.   Walreqenarlathod had lived in that pool since long-forgotten days, keeping to itself. In recent years, it had been bested by creatures with humanoid torsos, arms, and heads attached to the bodies of giant spiders. The creatures granted the aboleth its life, on condition that it captured any passers-by, detaining them. Every few days, they sent a patrol to the pool to investigate, and when someone entered the chamber and got caught, the spider-creatures would take them away. Walreqenarlathod didn't know the cause of the disease, but knew the creatures spread it somehow. Figuring it would be another two or three days before the next patrol, the party opted to camp out in the dark, under Doug's tiny hut, and wait.   Two days later, the party, waiting near an entrance to the large chamber, heard voices. Preparing an ambush, the party entered combat against three spider-creatures: a male dwarf with a large greataxe, a female orc with a mace in one hand and her other natural arm replaced with an oversized arm from an ogre, roughly stitched on, and a female Telnari with long, white hair. The party quickly dealt with the dwarf, and fought off the orc, while the moon elf created a magical darkness in the mouth of the tunnel that the party's light couldn't penetrate.
