Session 45: Breaking Eggs and Rescuing Elves
General Summary
The party spent a couple more hours travelling through the winding tunnels before entering a dry, dusty cave strung with thick cobwebs. Weapons were placed strategically near the entrance, possibly to be used in the defense of the cave system. Following a rough-carved hallway into another room, Shadow and Tamugar spotted a hole in the ceiling, large enough for the giant spider-humanoids to use, as well as a number of pit traps on the ground. Avoiding the traps, they ascended the stairs at the far end of the trap room, finding a hatchery. A number of spider eggs sat in a few alcoves; one was guarded by a female gnome spider and female aarakocra spider. Shadow and Tamugar decided to kill the spiders and destroy the eggs, attempting to sneak up but failing. The noise of their combat attracted the attention of an even larger ogre spider from a neighbouring room containing several jail cells. One contained Belzaphir, a half-twilight elf sorcerer. Watching the ogre disappear down the stairs to the hatchery, Belzaphir misty stepped out of the prison and followed it, joining the fight and helping Tamugar and Shadow kill the remaining spiders. After Tamugar cut the top off one of the rubbery eggs, he found an unborn hatchling inside, a hybrid humanoid-spider that appeared to be born naturally, not constructed by stitching two separate bodies together. The party burned the eggs as Tamugar went to the Windward Serpent to get a coin from Talienne for Belzaphir. Talienne seemed to recognize his name, but wouldn't discuss it further, but she granted him the coin and the party ascended to the Windward Serpent to sleep for the night.
