Session 10: Do Giants Dream Of Magic Cows?

General Summary

The party and their three adventurers-turned-guards, a tough-looking human female, a lithe male Telnari, and their male half-orc driver, exited one of Eleth Lilanor's eastern gates, they followed a road that skirted the outer walls, heading gradually northwest, joining up with the larger north-south road leading to Freygarde Crossroads north of the city's largest gate, opening towards the Lantern section of the Sprawl. From a distance, guards seemed to be paying more attention to travelers using the gate, but the party was left unrestricted to continue on their way.   A few hours north of the city, they heard a rumbling in the darkness on the other side of a hill they were passing; the Telnari thought might be a snoring giant, so they let it alone and kept going. A few miles later, they came upon a small village with unmistakable signs of having been attacked by something large. An old male villager told the party that a giant had come, carrying off a couple cows. Seeing the benefit of getting on the villagers' good side, the party left their wagon and horses behind, heading back to the snoring on foot.   Approaching the giant from over the hill, the Telnari and half-orc fired arrows downhill. Doug dropped one of Ogvai charged crystals into the fire, setting off a small explosion, and the rest of the party charged into melee range, except Ogvai, who was closer than the other two archers but still using a shortbow. The noise and attacks woke the giant, who rose up slowly, taking a lot of damage from the party. Rome taunted the giant after using Heat Metal to cause one of the arrows embedded in it to burn it, and was rewarded with a massive swipe from the giant's club, knocking her on her back 10 feet away. Doug managed to bring the giant down with a well-placed slice across the back of one knee, taking some damage as the giant landed on him, and the giant's foot slid out and kicked Tamugar, who couldn't get out of the way in time.   Examining the surroundings, the party saw that the giant had cooked and eaten one of the cows and bashed in the head of the other. Rome carved up the meat and wrapped it in hide from both the cows, making it easier to transport back to the village. The giant was wearing a belt, which the party took, and Doug found some coins, a couple potions of healing, and a headless chicken in a cloth bag nearby. Rome claimed the belt after it had been identified as a Belt of Hill Giant Strength.   Returning to the village, the party distributed the meat and was given accommodation in the grateful villagers' homes, with a promise that the villagers would misdirect anyone who came looking for them.
