Session 3: Investigating the Creature Report

General Summary

Pook stepped towards the drunken Drebart and started hurling insults at him boosted with the magical sting of Vicious Mockery. Drebart reeled from the psychological blast of the magical attack and staggered back. Confused, he fumbled at his dagger, then seemed to think better of it and turned then stumbled out the door and into the night. Pook stood in the doorway and yelled, "And don't ever come back!" Drunkenly staggering into the street, Drebart fell on his face, then he stood up, turned and looked at the goblin and asked, "What did you do to me?" before running off into the night. A small crowd of onlookers clap and watch him run off.   Both Icepetal and Pello thanked Pook, as the three of them got to work cleaning up the mess from the altercation. It was during the cleanup, as Makoyepuk explained his attempt to find Gerf, that he found out that Gerf had the evening off and was likely at the The Dock House.   As customers started to return to the Tart's common room, the sheriff, Levenda Keyholder, dressed in a leather jerkin, high leather boots, leather gloves, and wearing a sword walked in and started asking about the altercation with the drunk. Icepetal and Pello explained what happened and Levenda discussed the altercation with Pook. She seemed surprised that Pook was able to handle the wealthy drunk who appears to have a reputation. Stating that he was probably on his way to the Owl in the Barrel, she left to find him.   Pook returned to playing his music and incorporated some choice insults, making fun of Drebart's name, eliciting cheers from the audience. Shortly after that, Gammy Furfoot approached Pook, complimented the song and gruffly thanked him for handling the situation with Drebart. She warned Pook to watch his back, now that he had possibly made enemies out of Drebart, who can hold a grudge, then she gave Pook a bag with five golden bears (5 gp) in it. On top of the gold from Gammy, Pook earned one silver bee (1 sp) for his playing.   At the end of the night of the 27th of Raindays, with no word from Gerf, Pook decided to set up camp under a table in the common room with a good view into the kitchen past the bar. Sometime late in the night, Gerf stumbled in drunk. As he reached the foot of the stairs, Pook spoke up and surprised Gerf. Gerf reassured Pook that he would indeed help out with the stake out - after just a short nap. Then he went upstairs and didn't come back down for the rest of the night. The night passed uneventfully.   In the morning, on the 28th of Raindays, as the sky lightened outside and the embers fore the fireplace died down, Pook headed outside to check things out. Stepping out onto the dew-covered grass, Pook noticed a little humanoid creature with insect-like wings fluttering through the branches of the tall oak tree about 20 feet away. Pook tried to make contact by shouting out to it, "Hey, winged little person! Let's talk!" Nothing answered, but there was some movement. Pook continued to try to convince the creature to come out.   Unsuccessful at convincing the creature to come out, Pook used a Minor Illusion to create the sound of a loud "Boo!" behind the creature in the branches of the tree. As a result, two humanoid creatures, one with dragonfly wings and one with butterfly wings briefly fluttered out of the tree then flew back in and began chattering in the same strange language as the oily creature. After another blast with the Minor Illusion, Pook got the creature to look out of the tree and ask, "Hey! What are you doing?" At which point, Pook cast Tasha’s Hideous Laughter on the dragonfly-winged fellow.   Doubled over in laughter, the creature fluttered to the ground and drew a sword. While the little creature was laughing uncontrollably, Pook approached him and grabbed him and put his dagger to his throat, then shouted up to the creature in the tree, "Listen, I just want to talk! Come down here and let's talk." But the creature in the tree responds by dispelling the Tasha's Hideous Laughter, freeing Pook's captive from the spell.   Pook and the creature agreed to talk, at which point Pook lowered his dagger and released him. The creature introduced himself as Greenthorn the Sprite and his friend as Featherpuff the Pixie. Through discussion, Pook learned that the two come from a land known as the Feywild through a portal in the nearby tree where the wind chime once hung. They don't know what opened the portal, but they do think the wind chime played a part. They know that the oily creature, Berry the Boggle, which also came through the portal, took the chime which seems to have caused the portal to close. Apparently, he likes to take shiny things and play pranks. Pook also learned that there might be a Mite infesting the Tasty Tart and causing the strife that they have seen of late.   Together the two of them searched the shed for the Boggle, but found only a pile of trash in the corner that looks to be where the Boggle has been staying. He wasn't around. After agreeing to team up at the sound of Pook's whistle, Pook headed inside to go to sleep. Grabbing paper and pen from Gammy's office, Pook wrote a brief note:

"Have news. Asleep."
Under that he drew a picture of himself, left the note on the bar, and then he went upstairs to sleep.
