You can already embed audio links? I really don't see the point in this.
I have to agree with what everyone is saying. We can just embed a youtube or soundcloud within our own article already - and while customization of that would be nice, this is just overly complicated.
I like the idea, but I'd never use it because I listen to Youtube in a separate tab when I'm browsing/worldbuilding. I don't like the idea of embedding music players at all honestly. The issue with having a music system or embedded music on World Anvil (or any website for that matter) is that the music or ambient sound is interrupted while the new page is loading. If you are attempting to recommend your readers listen to certain ambient sound or music, I recommend you put a playlist on the front page or in the world meta page for people to open in another tab (or play on an embedded playlist), or just embed one of the music players in your articles. If the video part is unsightly and doesn't match your article (most likely this is the case), You can hide it in spoiler tags. The video will still play, even if the spoiler tags are closed again. Depending on your WA access level, you should be able to style the spoiler tag to however you want to fit the style of your world (Or nest the spoiler tag inside a custom CSS container, to style it differently from your other spoiler buttons so it's obvious it's the music player...). No matter what, readers will still have to click the spoiler button to play the video every time they load a new page.
sorry but with bbcodes that we can fetch from various website I do not beleive WA team should spend even a second trying to acheive what you propose. yes would be nice to be able to have a nice looking interface for it but I feel like it isn't needed over other feature suggestions.
There is a youtube bbcode. I really don't see the benefits of this apporach over just embedding a video or soundcloud-clip? Okay, I get the styling issue mentioned previously. Still, I feel this is very complicated for the author and the user ... Or is the idea an overall soundtrack for the world and one popup for the entire world? Still, I have to be honest ... with the small team of world anvil, I'd rather see them spend development time on more useful features.
Seconding Dyl's comment about customization of what we currently have, but otherwise will have to agree with everyone else: this just seems overly complicated and kind of unnecessary since we're already ~somewhat~ able to do what you're asking here.
So much better than last time, but I still gotta downvote, and here's why. I dont know if it's possible to edit the way YouTube videos, spotify, etc. Appear on the page. I hate how the YouTube videos look and would love to be able to add css to them/stylized them for the world I'm working in. Heres the thing: Either I dont know and you already can do it, or you cant and that's kind of what your asking here by my interpretation. While yes, added immersion is good for those wanting it, this kind of thing would be a bit too complicated and takes away the agency someone has on their world. I dont want another button I have to style and mess around with so maybe a tenth of people who read my work can listen to some ambiance. On the other hand, I would like the option to edit what's already there with more depth, like the podbean bbcode, and that assumes you can't already do it, which I'm pretty sure you can. If you can't, thatd be what I'd want. Customization. I mean technically, the inclusion of a video in the first place does exactly what your suggesting. Do you want to listen or not? Take that video and you could potentially use the global button or a tool bar to place your own button that does this exact thing. I think stormbril did that with the plant challenge actually. I dont know how, but sounds hidden and toggled are possible. I could be wrong but even then, There's really no reason to add a whole system for it in my opinion. It's just too much. Maybe a way to hide the video and just leave a play button? Maybe a way to easily edit the actual look of the element, if it's not already possible? Those I'll get behind.
I didn't even know there was an autoplay feature. So let's keep it
This has way to much complication. Positing a youtube video in the upper right corner of the sidebar is very helpful and easy for someone to spot if they want ambiance. There's no need for something like this as it could potentially drive someone AWAY from reading yours (or anyone's) article with this feature as it would be a nuisance to see this pop EVERY. SINGLE. TIME someone opens an article to read that has ambiance (especially if someone has a video in each of their articles).
Much better than the previous suggestions for this idea, however I believe that this design would be much harder to spot than just embedding a big youtube thing into your article
Why would anyone want to complicate things like that? You just put your youtube/spotify/whatever player on the top right of your article.
