Article Feature Conversion
Have you ever created an article, spending 5 hours filling out in great detail your master creation "Ducks Buck House" only to realize that the template you used was incorrect when you attempt to set its' "Type" and find that all the choices are related to Geographical locations? Is that why your bar has an Ecology section? You did think it was wierd that "Ducks Buck House" has a climate section, but hey it's "Ducks Buck House" it can have what ever you want you thought. However you do still want to set the proper type, the world must be properly informed of your creation.   That is why I would like to suggest Article Conversions! A button to convert an article template to another type! Directly transferring the content of overlaping sections, and giving you a .txt file for sections that do not have equivilants so you don't lose your genius to the ether, and can simply copy and paste it into the newly available sections!   Alternatively I would also suggest a "Unconvention Types" toggle to allow you to access the types of other articles so your geographical article can be the (Tavern? Is "Ducks Buck House" a tavern?) it was always meant to be!

The Team's Response

Thanks for submitting this feature request, and to all who considered and voted on it. Having discussed this with the team, we've come to the same conclusion we have with previous iterations of this style of feature request. World Anvil articles are more sophisticated and complex than a text file (that's why they're awesome but it also makes them complicated). This means that technically, the demands of this conversion are too heavy for the system for all the millions of users!

I know I've seen this requested before. Reading this particular request and the comments, I'm not in favor of this specifically, but what I would suggest is a way to convert to a generic article, moving all the detail sections in to the main body with BBCode headings, then changing the type of the generic article, but not populating any of the detail sections.

This has been proposed before (I know, since I was one of the proposers) and partially rejected. I think that the functionality to convert a Generic article some a specific template is in the works, but converting from one specific type of template to another has already been discussed and rejected, if I recall correctly.

This is a long needed feature. Because I started writing here on a whim, 3 years later. I'm a professional DM and the lore of my worlds is a cluster-f that I'm dreading rewriting just to get the proper template.

The thing is that its not as easy as people believe to just convert a template to another as people seem to think. If you have accídently chosen the wrong template its easier to just copy paste

I would like to see this, but also not sure it's worth the Dev time and effort to implement, since copy/paste does exist as a workaround.

Copy and paste is more efficient than the development of a migration tool

I know that I have created an article in the wrong template more than once, and added summary information to it without realizing that I made the mistake. This suggestion would definitely help in those situations

or you could not be lazy and just create the right article and move the content over via "copy and paste"
