Right now, especially on mobile, if I was editing a page and my mobile crashed or ran out of battery, or i suspended my laptop, then if I don't continue this work immediately; when I reopen my browser, I could ghost-open myself.
Right now, the ability of opening in multiple browsers/computers, the same article is to be avoided. At the same time, a world anvil member has no tool to detect multi-open/ ghost-open. I believe the server know how many "me" are looking at a page and can help me not sabotage myself in this manner.
I deliberately worded this feature in the most minimal way I can imagine, to lessen the work of implementation. By doing so, I leave no room for additional benefits.
The Team's Response
Due to low support and very high complexity this is decllined as suggested - But possible alternative implementation will be examined
IPs are not a safe way to determine multiple devices since devices under the same router will in fact have the same IP - Althought there are ways to determine it will need a very extended overhaul of the system
Alternative implementations
Althought this request is declined, there is an alternative implementation, equivalent to the solution that Wordpress is using that can help by advising if an article has been edited "lately" and that has a good chance to be implemented soon.
This will not cover you articles that remain open on another device. Another thing I will explore is the idea of timinig out a page and closing automatically if no action has been made for some time - That can negate this issue.
