Rework on the linebreak

What functionality is missing? What is unsatisfying with the current situation?

I love that Plato is a WYSIWYG editor, but the linebreak is really a pain for me:
  • typing "enter" does not linebreak, you have to "shift-enter" instead and for skipping a line you have to doble "enter".
  • there are also bugs with the linebreak and sometimes the linebreak doesn't produce the same effect, making the formatting annoying. The result is that you have to hit the "preview" button a lot, loosing the benefits of the WYSIWYG editor.
  • How does this feature request address the current situation?

In a result it would be nice to have an option in the editor that makes the linebreak work as it is in Word for example: "enter" for line break, "double enter" for skipping a line.

    The Team's Response

Hello there :)   So let's clear some things out first
  • In order to make text more readable in order to get a line break you need to leave a single empty line
  • You can achieve the same by using a [br] and the end of the line (the idea of a double space is also floated in the past to emulate the Markdown system)
  • Another way to have a line-break is to use paragraphs [p]...[/p] or any other text separator like center, left, right, justify that all leave space at the end of them.
  • Changing the way the system currently is will mean breaking the design of several tens of million articles so, it is out of the question - because ... I do not want to get killed by a raging hoard of angry people. (I think that is fair)

This would be very helpful! It is often inconsistent for me as well.

I also have seen these results and would love to see it improved.

Yes sometimes the linebreaks don't work consitent. It shows an extra line, even when there is none and the next and following line look ok. I tried to workaround with paragraphs

      &

. But it did not help.

This option already exists. The BBCode makes everything inside have that behaviour you want.   For the future, I guess it would be possible to have the Plato editor add that by default.

I thought I was the only one getting inconsistent results with this; sorta good to know it's not something I'm doing wrong, but rather a product of buggy formatting options. Would be super nice if it were fixed and consistent.

The paragraph functionality does seem to produce inconsistent results sometimes, probably a result of interactions with HTML and CSS.

I like being able to type single-enters for easier-to-read grouping of bb-code and whatnot, it would become far more ugly and unreadable if formatting all has to be on the same line.
