Add Leap Years in Calendars

calendar -leap-years leap year

What functionality is missing? What is unsatisfying with the current situation?

Currently, it is not possible to add leap years to a calendar. If you are basing your world on the real world, or any other system where your world has a leap year, that makes calendars virtually useless.

How does this feature request address the current situation?

Adding leap years would allow calendars that account for leap years.

What are other uses for this feature request?

That's the only use of it that I can think of.

How are Leap Days possible? Can you point me and everyone voting for this to some instructions? is there a gregorian calendar template I can use?
I see intercalary option, and it says it can make leap days, but there doesn't seem to be any way to make it reoccur on anything but an annual schedule. I don't see an option to make it happen once every 4 years.
I just confirmed on Discord, it is not possible to make a leap year appear every few years with the current system, so I guess that is my request? Make it possible to add leap days that occur every x years.
Cool, thanks for the update. Will they be able to be added every x years.

The Team's Response

Heya guys! Calendars will be re-written and will be based upon the system developed for Chronicles, since chronicles already have leap days integrated that will be a thing with the new version. Please keep in mind calendars, in its current form was always an experimental feature never out of BETA.

This is a great idea. However, I don't think it should be limited to just an extra day every four years. Depending on the society, you may wish to insert more than one day, or an extra hour. Or in some cases one day or more LESS.

I really need this, one of my calendars has a leap year every three years, and my stories tend to involve large swaths of time.

I have 5 days that start on the day after the 15th of May and when these 5 days end, the the 16th may is the following day.

Although it is possible to add leap days, it is NOT possible to customize their occurrence to not be every year. This request is absolutely valid and no need to be rude while hiding behind the anonymous function...

I don't understand the Sneaky Unicorn's acronym. Even if we have the feature already, it should be clearer.   Lots of worlds are based on the real world, so this is a good feature. It might be better to create a default "Real world earth calendar" that can easily be downloaded into a world for those who's gaming worlds are based on fictional versions of Earth (aka most modern fantasy and horror settings).

Leap Years can be added but you need to RTFM in order to make it work.
