Category UI Hierarchy Organization

What functionality is missing? What is unsatisfying with the current situation?

Currently, you can add an article directly to a category from the editor by going into the navigation panel in the article editor, and selecting a category from the drop-down editor. However, this drop-down has no hierarchy and does not show which categories are subcategories of other categories.   This is particularly inconvenient when you have the same subcategory name under two different larger categories (example, you have a top-level category for country A and country B, and under both categories there is a cities subcategory) as there is no way to tell which is which from the article editor.

How does this feature request address the current situation?

I would suggest adding hierarchy to the dropdown, so that in the previous example your dropdown would look something like:
Country A
  • Subcategory 1
  • Cities
Country B
  • Another subcategory
  • Cities

The more you create, the more difficult it becomes to find the right category or article you need to pick. The proposed idea is a very needed feature!

If a hiearchy display doesn't work, I would at least like it if there were a notation in parenthesis or something next to the category names, if they are a subcategory. So if you have a "Cities" category under both Country A and Country B, the "Cities" options in the dropdown would appear as "Cities (Country A)" and "Cities (Country B)".

I have this issue tpp, it'd be great to be able to distinguish categories in the dropdown.
