What functionality is missing? What is unsatisfying with the current situation?

When autolinking goes it misses many possible links, for example it doesn't trigger off first names or alternative names used for the person/place/whatever being referenced. I think if we had a "tagging" like block for "alternative names" where we could put in pseudonyms, first names, sobriquets, demonyms, etc... and so it could be choices as well. I think it needs to be seperate from the "tags" we currently have as well as these are just AKA for this article .

It makes it better for the tagging

Thanks for the suggestion! We previously accepted a suggestion to have a single alias per article, which is still planned. However, multiple aliases per article will not be implemented due to technical complexity.

Sure this could be a nice addition. I think it will be hard to implement in a convenient way though. Also, the opposite could come in handy. For example I may use title case in my entries but need them to be lower case for inline references. Anyway, seems like a lot of work, but I think it should be considered.
