Composition Mode for distraction-free Writing

Feature Upgrade · Manuscripts · Created by SemperFi

When writing articles it would be great to have a composition mode/view. This view blacks out everything else on your screen except what your writing. This is my favorite feature on Scrivener.

Getting out of the composition mode should be an easy press of the ESC key.   Writers hate to be distracted when we're writing. This view really helps us get into the zone and stay focused on our work.

The Team's Response

Focus mode already exists :) there will be upgrades to it (as with everything else on WA as we reach v.1.0 but well... this is already here :)

The currently implemented Focus View works similar to what you want to achieve. But, in my opinion and if I understand correctly yours opinion as well, this Focus View should disable everything apart of the text (so left-side menu as well!). Basically, whole window you are looking at should be transformed into giant text editor with no additional menus/sidebars/whatsoevers.

There already is a focus mode BUT the concept of it having a nice hotkey would be great.

As others have mentioned, this can already be done via "Enable Focus Mode." Upvoting mainly because I wish focus mode included the article-template specific sections as well.

While this mode already Exists ( and some of you other voters need to be more polite about stating as such) the need for a simple button press or key combo would make logical sense. Additionally, a toggle to open all new articles in focus mode would be nice to have for more seasoned users.   I originally was gonna downvote this, but thinking about it, it needs some solid love.

Focus mode exists. Right underneath the vignette editing box, you'll see a button that says "Enable Focus Mode." This does exactly as you describe above.
