What functionality is missing? What is unsatisfying with the current situation?

This is my second time suggesting this, but the brief: currently the manuscripts page only displays recently published manuscripts, which lowers visibility for those writing long form and serialized stories vs those publishing all at once. This has resulted in some people publishing each chapter of their serial work as a separate manuscript, rather than a collected work, whihc isn't convenient for readers or writers.

How does this feature request address the current situation?

Adding recently updated works would increase visibility for long form narratives.

What are other uses for this feature request?

Last time I requested it was said this feature could be abused, so I have some suggestion to prevent this:
  • Only display a new chapter update once every 24 hours
I know a lot of serial writers have a once a day update pace on other sites (more power to them, honestly) so this is the lowest time period I would recommend though if there are other concerns a 48hr or weekly cool down would cover a significant portion of writers, as a biweekly or weekly update is more common to my knowledge.   This would also prevent minor edits or tweaks to a chapter triggering a new update jump, since it would need to be a new chapter - perhaps with a minimum word count? I would recommend 1400 words, as most other webnovel platforms recommend (or require) chapters around 1500 words (or more), so it would make it easy to meet that. Less might work as well, this is just my suggestion.
  • Separating serial and finished work
Maybe a toggle could be added to the manuscripts interface where you can mark if you will be publishing by chapter or all at once?    This could make it easier to implement a posting limit as suggested above by attaching the cool down to the manuscript itself (so you physically cannot post until the time limit is met), and would make it easier for writers to track how long until their next chapter will show up as an update. This might also feel restricting if authors want the freedom to publish more often, even if it doesn't ping an update, but again, just a suggestion from my side to limit abuse of the update.    This could also have a split on the landing page, so those looking for serial works see them right away and the visibility is split between serial and non-serial work.    So there are my suggestions for the resubmission of this request!

The Team's Response

Thanks for the suggestion and for your updated thoughts on the matter! Unfortunately this got very low support, so we won't address it at this point. The way we present Manuscripts will definitely get a review at some point in the future, though.

You'd want an update to be an active push from the author wouldn't you, rather than simply implicit? Equally you don't want manuscript authors clicking such a request without thought, when they haven't really added new content but merely to increase their profile. Couldn't you simply handle this by a combination of a minimum cool down and allocating so many points to make an update request per time period per account? Once you've spent them then you have to wait for the next renewal period? That puts the responsibility with the author and saves on complicated or controversial algorithms and having to ignore minor updates etc... (apart from deciding how many points, each account gets and when they renew, which I don't have a feel for).
