article link links name naming auto-update

What functionality is missing? What is unsatisfying with the current situation?

When I modify the name of an article that is linked to elsewhere in my world, the link name does not auto-update in the other places the article is linked.    For example: I have two articles: the city of "Chalon", and the country of "Algeron". Within the article for 'Chalon', it is mentioned that the city is the capital of the country 'Algeron. Later, I rename the country from 'Algeron' to 'Alivant'. However, the link within the 'Chalon' article does not update with the name change and still says the old name: 'Algeron'.

How does this feature request address the current situation?

This would significantly reduce the workload of having to go through all articles to rename a link in the case that the original's name is changed.

What are other uses for this feature request?

I agree with thepocketGM's suggestion. I think the simplest way to do this is leave the name field blank to simply copy the actual article title, or to fill it in to have a custom name.

The easiest way it could be done is have the default article linking be *just* the link.   For the above example, say "Algeron", when linked and inserted, might show up when searching with the symbol as normal. However, when you click/TAB-select to confirm, it doesn't show a name at all , and instead shows the link as something like this:     That way, at a glance, you can tell what the default is.   Then, if you wish to customize the naming of it, you simply do this:   [insertWhatYouWantNameToBe]   Either way, the link is independent of the naming convention, and by default will show the article name if no custom name is given. Might need an overall link/naming convention change, but it would pay off in the long term.

I absolutely LOVE this idea. I use a campaign management software (that is no longer being developed), and this is by far the most useful functionality that it has, and one that sets it apart from every other piece of software I've tried.

I should note that Master+ can do this by using a variable instead, so that all they have to do is update the variable.

This could be very useful, however, if this is implemented it is very important that you can still manually customize the display name of the link. I often use different display names that link to the same article (for example, using both "Tom Riddle" and "Voldemort" as the display name in different situations, but both link to the same article about Voldemort). As long as that is still possible, I'm all for this idea.

Yeah, something has to change with that. I end up in the same boat when I want to make a name change.
