If it is not as good, or nearly as good as, Inkarnate it will just cause you a whole looong string of problems. I feel, it won't be worth it.
Would be nice to not need to use another tool if it was built in and worked well. Nothing crazy fancy, enough to scaffold out an area map even if it was just iframing in something like https://watabou.itch.io/medieval-fantasy-city-generator
There are already great map making programs on the web and in development. As long as we can use the map pin tools that already exists, there is no need for WA to dive into that.
Possibly the option to import our own Graphical images for pins would be nice.
No offense, but there are many better alternatives than world anvil to accomplish just this.
This both shouldn't happen, because WorldAnvil isn't map-making software, and also just fundamentally is not going to happen; there is no way the team would ever be willing to dedicate the amount of resources this would require. Silly suggestion.
as they already say, WA is not a map making software. WA should focus on what they do best.
Although I understand the desire for it, developing a capable mapmaking feature would take about as much work as all of the rest of WA. There are many good alternatives already available. If the WA team is going to put effort into the map features (and I think they are), my preference would be that they work on enhancing and improving existing features (like map layers, markers, labels, etc.)
I think it's enough that it's designed to work with third party map-makers. That allows for far more options and styles to be used and allows the Word Anvil team to focus on their own core business. As an aside, I like that we can pick and choose and support other independent teams of creators.
I rather they focus on polishing/expanding already existing features. There's a lot of great mapmaking software out there, so doesnt feel like WA needs to tap into that too.
I have wanted this feature since I started using worldanvil, even before the votes, I feel like this system being built in would make worldanvil A true one stop shop for all worldbuilding needs, rather than needing to subscribe to other map generating services.
Simple at first, but I think a map creator in the long term where cities and buildings can be made.
This has been turned down before and will be again, because it's too much work for WA devs when dedicated map-making services exist.
This would ultimately take too much time from the devs if they actually want to make it decent enough to be worth using over existing software/websites.
there are so many map software options for little money. Don't think this needs (or ever will) be part of WA.
There have already been suggestions like this, and the dev team has stated that they won't be implementing something like this. Other sites like Incarnate (which has a solid for-free version) work much better for a feature like mapmaking.
Similar requests have been declined, because WA is not a mapmaking service.
